3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
The following specification describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Field of Invention:
The present invention relates to a real-time money saver indicator. Further, the present invention relates to an indicator device that relatively calculates and displays savings made by a consumer appliance such as star-rated Air Conditioner during its operation.
Background of Invention:
India is a developing country and optimal management of electricity and its conservation are of paramount importance. India, being vast as it is, is still largely considered as a country having tropical climate with harsh to extreme heat temperatures in summers. Hence air-conditioners are now widely used in the country.
It is observed, that the electricity consumption by air-conditioners (ACs) is still a matter of concern. In spite of excruciating heat, people still use the ACs very sparingly. It is assumed by and large that ACs consume energy expensively.
The concept of energy efficiency star ratings is nascent in popularity among the less educated masses. The economic savings resulting from use of star rated consumer ACs is still not widely known to a common consumer. Energy meters display units consumed. But these meters display a sum of total electricity units consumed by every appliance in that place at that instant time. A proper individual consumption reading of each AC is not accurately measureable with such meters. Also, it is not possible to install multiple/ additional devices for every AC that is installed on one's premise to be checking such expenses and savings.
Such drawbacks of the prior art generate great need for a system or a device that has a simple, minima] manufacturing and easy to install or embed and can be popularized without cost or technological complications.
Summary:
The present invention is a device that is implemented inside an AC, or any such consumer appliance, whose savings need to be measured. The monitoring and calculating components are internally embedded in the core circuitry of the consumer AC, while the findings of these components are displayed on a display component on the body of the AC to be viewed by the consumer.
Brief description of Drawings:
Fig. 1 illustrates implementation of money saver indicator in an AC. Fig. 2 illustrates a schematic layout of the circuit.
Detailed Description:
The present invention is a real-time savings indicator. It displays savings resulted from the use of a star rated appliance, such as an air-conditioning devices, while they are in operation. This facility makes a consumer aware of usage and savings while the AC is in operation.
In an embodiment, as illustrated in Fig.l, the present invention is a Real Time Money Saver Indicator comprising a calculating and executing means enabled to accept the energy consumption data and further comparing it with stored standard data, related to star rated and non-star rated usage efficiency; and a display means to display the said calculated readings in a currency format. The said indicator is turned on/off via a remote control device of the said AC by a user.-The stored data comprises the star and non-star rating energy consumption. The calculating and executing means is a microprocessor which calculates and compares energy consumption of a star rating AC with a non-star rating AC. The AC can be a generic air-conditioning device.
As illustrated in Fig. 2, the real time savings, calculated by the present invention, are based on actual run-time of a star rated AC. When the AC is on, i.e. when it's compressor is working, its run time is counted in minutes. This run time is memorized by the microprocessor. This run time is saved in memory even when the AC is switched off. The counting is resumed when the AC is turned on. The microprocessor processes this count as per load ratings and calculates the savings resulted from operation of a star rated AC against non-star rated AC. These readings are then converted into monetary format of the local consumer, most preferably in rupee format for Indian consumer, and are then displayed on a LED display which is embedded in the AC. The LED display can be turned on/off via a remote control device of a said AC by a user.
In a preferred embodiment, the real-time Money Saver Indicator, embedded in an appliance, comprises a calculating and executing means enabled to accept energy consumption data as input and a display means. The calculating and executing means determines and obtains actual electrical consumption, compares it with stored standard data and calculates resultant energy savings. The display means is enabled to display said calculated energy savings in a currency format for various countries, such as rupee format for Indian consumers. The said indicator is activated to 'turned on' via a remote control device of the said appliance by a user.
In another preferred embodiment, the said indicator is embedded in an air-conditioning device. The said calculating and executing means of the said indicator is a processor embedded in the AC or any other device for which the indicator is used. The said stored standard data comprises 'star ratings' and 'non-star ratings' of energy consumption. The display means is an LED display for clear viewing of the savings.
