Abstract: Title of the invention: Multi axis weather proof camera housing and its installation A multi-axis weather proof camera housing scheme is designed and installed on fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. This camera housing, along with suitable camera, when installed on an aircraft at pre-determined location, can be used to take video of the aircraft maneuvering and associated mission and performance by the aircraft. The use of the invention includes: • Videography of the aircraft maneuvering; • Videography of the stores release/ separation from the aircraft and dynamics of the stores during/after the separation from aircraft; • Acquire qualitative information to study Oleo Stroke of aircraft landing gears; • Record fuel dumping by aircraft. The present invention offers miniature design of camera installation and housing scheme on any desired location of the aircraft and this offers operation of the camera in multiple axes for the required videography associated with aircraft maneuvering and mission, acquiring of voluminous data for real-time/offline analysis, protects the camera from external weather conditions like rain, wind, dust, snow etc. and thus offers all weather compatible camera housing on aircraft. Prior to the present invention, the camera was integrated on aircraft through Quick disconnect mount which is bulky and heavy. This causes additional load on aircraft which necessitates reinforcement of aircraft structure. Moreover, its movement was limited in pitch axis to ±15°and in roll axis to 0°. These deficiencies are overcome in the present invention.
1.Title of the invention
Multi axis weather proof camera housing and its installation
2.Field of invention
A multi axis weather proof camera housing scheme is designed and installed on fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. This camera housing, along with suitable camera, when installed on an aircraft at pre-determined location, can be used to take video of the aircraft maneuvering and associated mission and performance by the aircraft.
3.Use of invention
The present invention is useful for various applications like few mentioned below:a) Videography of the aircraft maneuvering. b) Videography of the stores release/ separation from the aircraft and dynamics of the stores during/after the separation from aircraft. c) Acquire qualitative information to study Oleo Stroke of aircraft landing gears. d)Record fuel dumping by aircraft.e)Studies on carrier based aircraft take-off /landing f)Surveillance & videography by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles 4.Prior art Earlier the camera was integrated on aircraft through quick discharge Mount having the feature which is bulky in construction and also with considerable weight, subsequently resulting in additional load on aircraft. Structure was to be reinforced to bear this additional load which was not found feasible at many places. Also, this camera housing had limitations in elevation axis (+/»15°) and roll axis with 0°.
5. Draw backs of prior art
• Structure was to be reinforced to bear the additional load which was not found feasible at many places.
• Limited operation in pitch axis (restricted to +/- 15°) and roll axis (restricted to 0°.)
•Due to its size/weight/installation limitations, it was not feasible to integrate the housing on a desired location onboard further towards acquiring any data.
6.Comparison between prior art and present invention A new concept was generated to overcome the size / weight / movement limitations stated above. This camera housing was engineered for miniature, easy and tool less operations so that it can be fitted anywhere without any structural mod / reinforcement.
7. Aim of the invention A multi axis weather proof camera housing scheme is designed and installed on fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. This camera housing, along with suitable camera, when installed on an aircraft at pre-determined location, can be used to take video of the aircraft maneuvering and associated mission and performance by the aircraft.
8.Summary of the present invention Multi axis weather proof Camera housing is designed to be integrated on a fixed wing or a Rotary wing aircraft. This Camera Housing along with suitable camera can be used to videograph the aircraft maneuvering. Further it is integrated especially to acquire qualitative data to study: Oleo stroke of main landing gears of Fixed wing or a Rotary wing aircraft and to record or videograph the fuel dumping by aircraft. Videography of all stores released from Fixed wing or a Rotary wing aircraft.
10. Statement of invention This invention finds its applicability in the Fixed wing or a Rotary wing aircraft for the videography of maneuvering and also study of all stores release. This miniature design due to its flexibility of mounting on any desired locations onboard gave further scope for recording or capturing voluminous data acquisition over different flight activities on multiple variants of fixed wing or a Rotary wing aircraft aiding towards the further studies/analysis.
