Multi Layer Waveguide
Abstract: ABSTRACT MULTI-LAYER WAVEGUIDE A multi-layer waveguide (100, 300) and a method of manufacturing the 5 same is has been described. The multi-layer waveguide (100, 300) comprises at least a first layer (102, 302) and a second layer (104, 304) optically coupled to transmit light (106, 306) therebetween. A plurality of grating strips (108, 308) is formed in at least one of the first layer (102, 302) and the second layer (104, 304), wherein the plurality of grating strips (108, 10 308) is patterned in the at least the first layer (102, 302) and the second layer (104, 304) such that grating strength of the plurality of grating strips (108, 308) either increases progressively or remains uniform along a direction of propagation of the light (106, 306). The present invention, by use of surface grating, facilitates efficient light coupling into the multi-layer 15 waveguide (100, 300).
