Multipurpose Contour Plate For Ensuring Profile Of Skins In Aircraft Assembly
Abstract: In aircraft assembly aerofoil profiles of the aircraft skin plays a major role in defining aircraft performance. Particularly these controlling contour surfaces are very essential in fighter aircrafts for good maneuverability. LCA (Light combat Aircraft) consists of skins fabricated with composite materials and sheet metal. Hence while carrying out assembly on major jigs and fixtures it is mandatory to align and obtain correct contour surfaces as per drawing limits. In view of these contour plates plays a major role in obtaining the desired contour limits. In this concept to reduce time, space constraints a multipurpose template is designed which will cater for both locating and checking the limits after assembly of particular skins.

TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention describes the use of single contour plate for the purpose of both butting (assembling/locating) and skin checking (inspection) of contours. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Major assembly Jigs & fixtures designed for LCA aircraft consists of both butting as well as checking contour plates. This result in manufacture of more contour plates and storage of these contour places is cumbersome. This activity requires loading of butting contour plates at the time of assembly build and same need to be unloaded during inspection. After unloading butting contour plates; checking contour plates need to be loaded for Inspection purpose. The new concept will facilitate use of single contour plate as both butting as well as checking contour plates with few modifications. This will help to reduce waste of raw material, loading and unloading time, storage space. SUMMARY OF INVENTION
Contour plates are mounted to L angles at two locations on Major assembly Jigs & fixtures. With new concept, two more different locations will be provided at contour plates as well as L angles. Existing tooling holes is for butting contour and the same need to be removed and it shall be locked in new location provided. New tooling hole position is designed in such a way that contour location will move to checking location. PROCESS DETAIL DESCRIPTION
Process requires Tool design & Jig boring of additional holes at L angles as well as Contour plates. One set of holes will be locked and used for building the assembly (butting contour). Another set of holes will be locked and used for Inspection of the assembly (Skin Checking contour). This concept holds good only when the contour surface area is the same after providing suitable offset value.
