Abstract: "A CARBON FILTER CARTRIDGE FOR REMOVING PATHOGENIC MICROORGANISMS AND PESTICIDE CONTAMINANTS FROM WATER" This invention relates to a carbon block filter cartridge for removing pathogenic microorganism and pesticide contaminants from water comprising an activated carbon block filter made from activated carbon block filter made from activated carbon particles and activated alumna particles, said activated alumna particles having Nano particles of noble metals incorporated therein. This invention also includes a water purifier incorporating the novel carbon filtration cartridge having Nano particles of noble metals embedded therein.
A carbon filter cartridge for removing pathogenic microorganisms and pesticide contaminants from water.
This invention relates to a carbon filter cartridge for removing pathogenic microorganisms and pesticide contaminants from water.
Contamination of water has been on the rise in India, particularly in view of lack of proper facility for industrial waste disposal. Besides, increased use of pesticides and herbicides in agri and horticulture results in contaminating water sources with pesticides and agrochemicals which are hazardous to health. Purification of water in order to make it safe for human conception is one of the most demanding problems faced by health authorities and ordinary citizens. Underground seepage of agriculture chemicals has contaminated underground water sources also, thus necessitating purification and removal of contaminants from well water as well. Currently available water filters activated carbon block filters for the removal of pathogenic micro organisms and the like contaminants. Pesticides removal is not effective with such known filter cartridges and when used reduces their life span thereby requiring frequent replacements which of course becomes unaffordable to ordinary householders.
This has led us to develop a novel cartridge capable of removing microorganisms and agriculture chemicals from water contaminated therewith. It is observed that Nanosilver or Nanogold particles mixed with activated alumina when incorporated in activated carbon and made into a filter block removes pathological micro organisms and hazardous industrial chemicals very effectively without reducing the life of the cartridge,
This invention relates to a carbon block filter cartridge for removing pathogenic microorganisms and pesticide contaminants from water which comprises an activated carbon block filter made from activated carbon particles and activated alumina particles, said activated alumina particles having Nano particles of noble metals incorporated therein. Noble metals of particular relevance are gold/silver.
This invention also includes a water purifier incorporating the novel carbon block filter cartridge. A simple device that does not utilize reverse osmosis technology has been developed by us and is found very effective in removing sediments as well as pathogenic microorganisms and agriculture chemical contaminants from water.
This device comprises a sedimentation filter module and the novel carbon block filter module. This invention relates to a device for purifying and decontaminating water which comprises a sedimentation filter cartridge connected in series with a carbon block filter cartridge, said carbon block filter cartridge being made from activated carbon particles and activated alumna particles, said activated alumna having Nanosilver/Nanogold particles of noble metals incorporated therein.
A sedimentation filter module housed in a bowl and cap assembly is provided with an inlet and outlet means for water flow. The outlet of the sedimentation filter cartridge is connected to the carbon block filter module having Nanosilver and Nanogold particles. The outlet of the carbon block filter cartridge is connected to a faucet for drawing purified water. Sedimentation filter cartridge may be preferably a polypropylene yarn wound filter cartridge compressed cellulose filter.
medium or a ceramic cartridge suspended impurities like dust, rust and the like physical impurities are removed from the water flowing therethrough. These two
cartridges are serially connected. However, the carbon block filtration module is capable of forming a part of a combination of any other water purification system.
It is to be understood that the amount of Nano particles or noble metal particularly Nanosilver/Nanogold particles in the carbon block filter is not critical to this invention.
This invention will now be described with reference to Fig. I and Fig. II of the accompanying drawings.
Fig. I is a schematic diagram of the water purifier using sedimentation filtration and Nanosilver/Nanogold particles containing carbon block fiher cartridge.
Fig. II is the sectional view of the sedimentation filter cartridge and Nanosilver/gold particles containing carbon block filter cartridge. The arrows indicate the flow of water through the system.
In Fig., reference numerals 1, 2, 3 and 4 stand for saw water inlet port, sediment filter cartridge, pesticide removal and treated water outlet respectively.
Fig. II, reference letters C, , C2, SF, CF, WIP, BFP and WOP stand for caps for filter housings, sediment-filtration cartridge, carbon filtration cartridge having Nanosilver/gold embedded therein, water inlet port, back flush port and water outlet port respectively FHi and FH2 represent filter housing for sedimentation filter cartridge and Nanosilver/gold particles embedded carbon block cartridge respectively. Arrows show the direction of water flow through the filtration device.
Obvious alterations and modifications known to persons skilled in the art are within the scope and ambit of this invention and the appended claims.
