"New Methodology To Enhance The Cycle Life Of Secondary Batteries"
Abstract: A method of enhancing the life cycle of secondary batteries is disclosed. The method involves identifying an appropriate voltage range for charging and discharging the battery with minimum charge transfer resistance. The method comprises obtaining electrochemical impedance spectra at various voltage steps during charging of the battery/cell, fitting the data to an equivalent electrical circuit model. Parameters are then extracted from the electrical circuit model, and analyzed to find the charge transfer resistance for each voltage step. Capacity loss is estimated as a function of charge voltage through analysis of charge transfer resistance. Charging is then done at a voltage range with minimum charge transfer resistance, whereby the cell is used with minimum loss of capacity and enhanced life.
