Novel Arrangement For Cng Pressure Gauge In Vehicle

Abstract: This invention relates to novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle comprising of a receptacle having filling valve for refueling connected to a pressure regulator through a valve integrated CNG tank by means of high pressure pipe, in which the regulator integrated with a high pressure lock off valve and a filter is provided for low pressure gas flow into engine of vehicle, wherein the pressure gauge is provided between the receptacle having filling valve and the CNG tank directly connected to said regulator. It is associated with the following advantageous features:- - Indication of pressure accurately without any pressure losses. - Dissipation of gas directly into the atmosphere without causing any fire in case of any leakage. - Reduced NR joints. - Simple fittings. - Ease of pressure check during filing of gas.

Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle.
PRIOR ART
The arrangement of CNG pressure gauge in vehicle is as shown in fig. 1, wherein
CNG is filled into the CNG tank (2) through a filling valve (1) connected to each
other by means of high pressure pipe (P). The CNG is maintained at high pressure
of Approx. 200 Bar inside the tank integrated with a valve (3). Said fuel tank is
connected to a pressure regulator (4) through a three-way connector (C). The
connector is provided to connect the cylinder, regulator and pressure gauge by
means of high pressure pipe (P). The regulator with high pressure lock off valve (V)
and a filter (5) is provided to reduce the pressure from 200 Bar to 2 Bar. Thus, the
CNG with low pressure is supplied into engine (6). Further, hot water circulation
hoses (H) are provided between the regulator and engine as shown in the figure.
Thus, the pressure gauge is provided in proximity to the CNG tank in boot area.
Alternatively, it can also be provided in proximity to engine under bonnet.
From safety point of view, pressure gauge is required to be checked before refueling
the vehicle. However, for the same bonnet or boot area is required to be opened,
which is generally avoided because it is inconvenient, thereby endangering life of
users and people around.
Further, disadvantages associated with the above can be listed hereinbelow:-
- Requires checking of pressure before and after filling gas.
- In case the cylinder valve solenoid is off, the pressure gauge reading is zero
even if the CNG is available in the high pressure line.
- Pressure gauge is subjected to high temperature and more vibration due to
presence in the engine room.
- Chances of fire in case of any leakage of gas due to high temperature in the
engine room.
- Indicates inaccurate value of pressure at times.
Hence, it is required to develop novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in
vehicle which can address the aforesaid drawbacks.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide novel arrangement for CNG
pressure gauge in vehicle which overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior
art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide novel arrangement for CNG
pressure gauge in vehicle which is efficient.
Further object of the present invention is to provide novel arrangement for CNG
pressure gauge in vehicle which is reliable.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided novel arrangement for CNG pressure
gauge in vehicle comprising of a receptacle having filling valve for refueling
connected to a pressure regulator through a valve integrated CNG tank by means of
high pressure pipe, in which the regulator with a high pressure lock off valve and a
filter is provided for low pressure gas flow into engine of vehicle, wherein the
pressure gauge is provided between the receptacle having filling valve and the CNG
tank directly connected to said regulator.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the
ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and
wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: arrangement of CNG pressure gauge in vehicle according to prior art.
Fig. 2 shows: novel arrangement of CNG pressure gauge in vehicle according to the
present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:-
The invention is directed to novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle.
In order to overcome the aforesaid problems associated with the known art, the
position of pressure gauge is shifted by locating the same in proximity to receptacle
of vehicle through which refueling of the vehicle takes place.
Now, reference may be made to fig. 2, in which CNG receptacle having filling valve
(1) is connected to pressure regulator (3) through a CNG tank (2) integrated with a
valve (2A). The filling valve, CNG tank and regulator are connected to each other by
means of High Pressure Pipe (P), in which pressure of gas is maintained at around
200 Bar. In order to supply low pressure gas to engine (6), the regulator with a high
pressure lock off valve (4) and a filter (5) is provided to reduce the gas pressure from
200 Bar to 2 Bar.
As in prior art, hot water circulation hoses (H) are provided between the regulator
and engine.
According to the present invention, provision of pressure gauge (G) is made between
the receptacle having filling valve (1) and the CNG tank (2).
The pressure gauge is connected to the pipe line between the filling valve and tank
with the help of high pressure pipe (P).
The pipe connected to the gauge can be plastic or carbon steel instead of stainless
steel as used in the known art.
The materials of the pipe are given as example. Other materials readily apparent to
person skilled in the art are understood to be within scope of the invention.
The invention eliminates three way connector. Further, in this invention, due to
placemient of the gauge near to the receptacle, some CNG high pressure pipes are
deleted from the system thereby making the system compact.
Further, as number of high pressure pipe lines is reduced chances of CNG leakage
during crash are reduced.
As the pressure gauge is located near to the receptacle, it is very convenient to
check the pressure even at the time of refueling whereas it is very inconvenient with
the prior art.
Again, it reflects exact pressure without any pressure losses. In case of any leakage,
gas goes directly to atmosphere without causing any fire.
Again, its reading is not affected by the opening or closing of the solenoid valve.

- Indication of pressure accurately without any pressure losses.
- Dissipation of gas directly into the atmosphere without causing any fire in
case of any leakage.
- Reduced NR joints.
- Simple fittings.
- Ease of pressure check during filing of gas.
It is applicable to both CNG run as well as bi fuel vehicle.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the
scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:

WE CLAIM:-
1. Novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle comprising of a
receptacle having filling valve for refueling connected to a pressure regulator
through a valve integrated CNG tank by means of high pressure pipe, in
which the regulator with a high pressure lock off valve and a filter is provided
for low pressure gas flow into engine of vehicle, wherein the pressure gauge is
provided between the receptacle having filling valve and the CNG tank directly
connected to said regulator.
2. Novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle as claimed in claim 1,
wherein the pressure gauge is connected to the pipe between the filling valve
and tank by means of a high pressure pipe made of material such as carbon
steel, plastic.
3. Novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle as claimed in claim 1 or
2, is associated with the advantageous features such as herein described.
4. Novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle as claimed in any of the
preceding claims, is applicable to CNG run vehicle/bi-fuel vehicle.
5. Novel arrangement for CNG pressure gauge in vehicle substantially as herein
described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
