Abstract: Novel preservative system for personal care formulations. Preservative systems have been developed by blending organic and inorganic chemicals with or without Chlorhexidine Di-undecylenate. The disclosed systems are long lasting , prevent growth of microorganism by creating an environment that is hostile to them; block the oxidation process; inhibit the enzymatic process especially in fruits and food. The blends disclosed herein are very efficient against all the microbes like gram positive bacteria or gram negative bacteria or fungi or yeast or moulds thereby giving a broad spectrum preservative system
DESC:
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention provides preservative system for personal care formulations
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
A preservative is a natural or synthetic chemical that is added to food, pharmaceutical and dermatological and personal care products to keep them safe from bacterial, environmental and personal contamination. Most of the preservatives are safe when used at the recommended concentrations, which is why they may be added to products. However, there is a risk of side effects when consumed in large amounts. Preservatives can be used at a relatively low level to ensure that the product performs effectively over time, which is usually one to three year. Personal care products contain water and nutrients where microorganisms grow and flourish. Cosmetics with contaminants are not only unappealing to the eyes and smell bad, but they can also produce skin infection, especially when applied to dry and cracked skin. Hence, there is a need of a preservative active systems or blend of preservative active systems to keep the formulation efficient in terms of morphology and efficacy.
Principal objective of the present invention is to provide preservative system for personal care formulations
Another objective of the invention is to provide long lasting preservative system..
Another objective of the invention is to provide a rapid action preservative.
Another objective of the invention is to provide a non toxic and non sensitizing preservative
BRIEF DESCRIPTIONOF PRIOR ART
Prior art US10064881B2 Speaks of preservative blends to be added to the personal care formulation. The instant disclosure preservative blends comprises of non toxic ingredients.
US681060B1 mentions the use of lipid carrier for antimicrobial agent for topical and oral care formulation. In the instant application disclosing preservative blends wherein propylene glycol/zemea or even phenoxy ethanol behave as a carrier apart from itself being an antibacterial agent.
US005500217A mentions about an antimicrobial ingredient which is a salt blended with MIT (another antimicrobial agent) in a solvent medium and this gives a broad spectrum scope to the preservative blend.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to the main aspect of the invention there is provided novel preservative
system for personal care formulations comprising organic , inorganic chemicals with
or without adding Chlorhexidine Di-undecylenate, the said organic chemicals being Propylene glycol, Sodium benzoate at 30%, Potassium sorbate at 15%, Ethylhexylglycerin 20-30% ,Phenoxyethanol 60-70% ,Undecylenic acid 8-12%, Ethylhexylglycerin at 10% 1,3-Propanediol at 90%.
According to another embodiment wherein the preservative system has broad-spectrum activity
According to another embodiment wherein the preservative system is long lasting
According to another embodiment wherein the preservative system is rapid action.
According to another embodiment wherein the preservative system is non-sensitizing.
According to another embodiment wherein the preservative system is, non-toxic
Following examples are given by way of illustrations only and should not be construed to limit the scope of the invention
EXAMPLE -1
In a vessel, Chlorhexidine Di-undecylenate weighed and and Propylene glycol was poured in the vessel in required proportion of 20%:80% The blend is kept in a tightly closed containerand stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area. The dose level of ppreservative liquid is 0.5-0.75% for use in used in hand sanitizer, soap, mouth wash, and foot cream, roll-on, dusting powder as anti-bacterial agent.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In the most preferred embodiment the preservatives formulations include without any limitations to percentages and constituents in each system; Liquid preservative using PEG Liquid preservative using Zymea solid preservative, aaqueous blend of sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate ,blend of ethyl hexylglycerine/phenoxy ethanol/undecylenic acid ,Ethyl hexyl glycerin & Zymea, 1,2 – Hexanediol /Phenoxyethanol/ Chlorphenesin, 1,2 – Hexanediol /1,2 – Propanediol /Iodopropynyl butyl carbamate ,Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate /Chlorphenesin /Caprylyl glycol /1,3- Propanediol ,Phenoxyethanol /Benzyl alcohol /Undecylenic acid Undecylenic acid /Caprylyl glycol /Phenoxyethanol,Sodium Benzoate /Gluconolactone /Calcium gluconate ,Undecylenic Acid /1, 3 – Propanediol /Benzyl Alcohol and Ethyl hexyl glycerin/ Undecylenic acid).
The efficacy of these have been tested by challenge test in a particular formulation and some of them has been tested for the efficacy in their kill test.
The ingredients mentioned herein are per say themselves efficient preservative efficient against one or more antimicrobials like gram positive bacteria or gram negative bacteria or fungi or yeast or moulds, however they may not cover all the microbes. The blends disclosed herein are very efficient against all the microbes mentioned above. Hence, giving a broad spectrum preservative system.
