Abstract: A front number plate illuminator for a two wheeler is provided with a headlamp housing for illuminating an area of a road surface forwardly of the two wheeler; at least two reflector chamber inside the headlamp housing; a headlight located in one reflector chamber; and at least two pilot lamp located in another reflector chamber, wherein a clear lens is provided between pilot lamp and the front number plate.
Number plate illuminator in two wheelers
Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to "Number plate illuminator in two wheelers". In particular this invention relates to front number plate illuminator of motorcycle.
Background of the Invention:
Generally in a motorcycle a headlamp unit is disposed on the front head portion of the front cowling and below this a number plate is provided. Typically the front cowl covers the bottom surface of the headlamp unit. Typically the parking lights or pilot lamps are provided inside the headlamp unit no separate chamber or unit is provided for it. The said pilot lamp act as parking lamp and is used during low light road conditions to increase visibility of the particular two wheeler when the usage of the main headlamp is not required.
The parking light or pilot lamp is placed at various locations inside the headlamp like on the top of the headlamp or bottom of the headlamp. Problem arises during low light conditions when the front number plate needs to be illuminated, since the pilot lamp is housed within the headlamp whose bottom surface is covered by front cowl and the number plate is placed below the front cowl thereby the front number plate does not get any light on it.
Hence the objective of the present invention is to overcome the above mentioned problem.
Summary of the Invention
The present invention has been devised in view of the above difficulty and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide front number plate illumination.
Another object of the present invention is to provide front number plate illumination using pilot lamp itself without adding specific illuminator for the purpose.
Yet another object of the present invention is to design the headlamp wherein it houses the pilot lamp and illuminates the front number plate.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a cost effective arrangement.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
FIG. 1 is a conventional motorcycle.
FIG. 2 shows one embodiment according to the present invention.
FIG. 3 shows the perspective view of one embodiment according to the present invention.
Detail Description of the Invention:
First, with reference to Figure 1 a motorcycle comprises of a frame (101), front fork (102) attached to a pivot tube (201) of the vehicle frame, a front wheel (103) attached to these front forks (102), a handle bar (104) connected to the front forks (102), a fuel tank (105) attached so as to straddle an upper part of the vehicle frame, -a seat (106) attached to the upper rear portion of the vehicle frame, an engine unit (107) attached to the lower front section of the vehicle frame, a swing arm (108) attached to a lower rear section of the vehicle frame, suspended by a rear shock absorber (not shown) from the vehicle frame and a rear wheel attached to a rear end of swing arm (108).
The intake system of the engine comprises of a fuel air metering device such as a carburettor (109), intake duct and an air cleaner. The exhaust system of the engine comprises of exhaust pipe and a muffler. The motorcycle is also provided with a side cover for covering a side section of the vehicle frame, a seat cover for covering a rear section of the vehicle frame below the seat, a front fender (110) for covering an upper part of the front wheel (103), and a rear fender (111) for covering an upper part of the rear wheel (112). The drive from the engine (107) is transmitted from the engine to the driven wheel sprocket mounted on the rear wheel hub mounted on the rear wheel assembly.
The body frame of the motorcycle includes a head pipe/ steering pivot/pivot tube at the front end of the body frame. From the top portion of the head pipe one main tube extends downwards and obliquely backwards. Both sides of the lower portion of the main tube is provided with a bracket for rear engine mounting. The said main tube is substantially L shaped one when motorcycle is viewed from left side with front wheels on the left hand side and rear wheels on the right hand side.
From the rear portion where the main tube terminates, a pair of upper tubes extends backward and upward towards the rear side of the upper tubes with respect to the horizontal direction.
Referring to figure 2, a front cowl or fairing (201) is mounted onto a support structure, which goes into the fork inner of front fork. A headlight (202) goes into -the cavity of the fairing (201) is resiliency mounted to the brackets. The said front cowl with the headlight constitutes the headlamp housing. The headlamp housing front is provided with a visor (203). According to one embodiment of the present invention the pilot lamp (204 ) is placed below the head lamp reflector (205) but within a part of the main reflector housing.
The said reflector (205) is designed with two chambers, the top chamber (206) houses the headlight (202) and the bottom chamber (207) houses the pilot lamp (204). Front number plate (208) is placed just below the headlamp housing. To illuminate the front number plate the lens area (301, shown in figure 3) between the pilot lamp and the front number plate is made clean lens area (i.e. without any textures or optical patterns). The said front number plate (208) is made tilted slightly upward whereby it gets illuminated for its better visibility.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We Claim:
1. A front number plate illuminator for a two wheeler comprises:
a headlamp housing for illuminating an area of a road surface forwardly of the two wheeler;
at least two reflector chamber inside the headlamp housing;
a headlight located in one reflector chamber; and
at least two pilot lamp located in another reflector chamber,
wherein a clear lens is provided between pilot lamp and the front number plate.
2. The front number plate illuminator as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said headlamp housing comprises of the front cowl and headlight.
