Nutraceutical Composition For Reducing Obesity

Abstract: A method of preparing a nutraceutical powdered beverage composition comprises a soy protein isolate with a milk/casein protein isolate, adding predetermined amount of carbohydrates (fruit concentrate in dextrose, fructose, barley malt extract and/or other carbohydrates.,), a predetermined amount of soluble dietary fiber and citri fiber to the admixture, incorporating a predetermined amount of potent sweetener, multivitamins, minerals and a predetermined amount of natural fat burners along with the natural flavor in the blender. The powdered beverage composition is then milled to obtain a homogenized powdered beverage composition and the homogenized powdered beverage composition is dried at a predefined temperature under vacuum to obtain a dried powdered beverage composition. The dried powdered beverage composition is further subjected to granular filtration to obtain the protein rich powdered beverage.

Description

Technical Field of the invention

[001] The invention relates to a process for preparation of nutraceutical composition in a powdered form aiding weight loss in obese patients. More particularly the invention relates to a powdered composition fortified with high amounts of proteins (nine essential amino acids), carbohydrates, soluble dietary fiber and citri fiber, incorporating a predetermined amount of potent sweetener, multivitamins, minerals and natural fat burners.

Back ground of the invention

[002] Now a day, regulation of body weight is a complex process having enormous implications for the health and well being of humans. Excess body weight leading to a wide range of health problems including cardiovascular disease, skeletal and joint disease, diabetes, cancer, poor body image, depression etc. However, maintaining proper body weight is difficult for individuals who lack the time to exercise or have the knowledge.

[003] Generally, obesity is partially prevented by employing diet or nutrition and behavior modification programs or by using pharmaceutical intervention. The most widely administered drugs includes: orlistat, which reduces the amount of dietary fat that is absorbed from the intestine; sibutramine, which suppresses appetite by inhibiting the re-uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin; fenfluramine and d-fenfluramine, which suppress appetite by both releasing serotonin and then inhibiting its re-uptake; and phentermine, which suppresses the appetite by stimulating the release of norepinephrine.

[004] Further, usage of the above mentioned drugs have mild to serious side effects. For example the popular appetite suppressant drug "Fen-Phen" (the combination of fenfluramine and phentermine) which gave a 15-20% reduction in body weight, was clinically determined to have significantly increased the risk of heart valve damage. Consequently, after a number of confirmed "Fen-Phen" related patient deaths, most of the drugs containing fenfluramine have been recalled and withdrawn. Other common side effects include dizziness, headaches, rapid pulse, palpitations, sleeplessness, hypertension, diarrhea, and intestinal cramping.


[005] Currently, consumption of weight loss drugs becoming habituation to the humans. The drugs containing amphetaines and other initial weight reducing components requires increased dosages to maintain weight reduction. The most serious problem associated with consumption of this kind of drugs is that the lost weight is frequently regained after the drug is discontinued and the fairly limited utility of these drugs is more than offset by the side effects and other drawbacks inherent in their use.

[006] Conventionally, caffeine and ephedra are used for energy expenditure and thermogenesis in humans. Caffeine in particular is a popular CNS stimulant used in weight management, while caffeine at high doses increases energy expenditure and causes fat oxidation. The continued or sustained weight loss becomes a major concern where greater amounts of caffeine lead to a gradual habituation and eventual decrease in efficacy. Furthermore, stimulants such as caffeine induce possible transient side effects on the cardiovascular system. Caffeine in large amounts should also be avoided by people who suffer from kidney disease, an overactive thyroid, a tendency to spasms, or problems with anxiety or panic.

[007] In the light of the aforementioned discussion there exists a need for proving a nutraceutical composition to promote weight loss by reducing absorption of fat and modulation of appetite, further the formulation is provided without any side effects.

Brief Summary of the invention

[008] The following presents a simplified summary of the disclosure in order to provide a basic understanding to the reader. This summary is not an extensive overview of the disclosure and it does not identify key/critical elements of the invention or delineate the scope of the invention. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts disclosed herein in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[009] Exemplary objective of the present subject mat ter is to prepare a nutraceutical composition in a powdered form which maintains the weight and also reduces obesity of the candidate.

[0010] Another exemplary objective of the present invention, soy protein majorly helps in managing weight and reducing obesity by decreasing the body fat. The soy protein isolate increases the metabolic rate resulting in burning the stored tat in the fat cells quickly and effectively. It reduces the growth of cancer cells, mainly breast and prostate, as it acts as phytochemical and the essential amino acids regulates the biochemical metabolism.

[0011] Another exemplary objective of the present invention, the nutraceutical composition lessens the insulin fluctuations, controls the blood sugar levels and reduces hunger levels.

[0012] Another exemplary objective of the present invention, the soluble dietary fiber helps in lowering the blood cholesterol levels and also regulates the digestive activity.

[0013] Another exemplary objective of the present invention, the naturally extracted fat burners enhances the metabolic rate and controls the cholesterol levels by decreasing the abdominal fat and decreasing the carbohydrate metabolism respectively.

[0015] According to a first aspect of the invention a method of preparing a nutraceutical powdered beverage composition is disclosed.

[0016] According to a first aspect of the invention a method of preparing a nutraceutical powdered beverage composition is carried by blending a soy protein isolate with a milk/casein protein isolate, whereby the blending forms an admixture of the soy protein isolate and the milk/casein protein isolate.

[0017] According to a first aspect of the invention, it further includes adding predetermined amount of spray dried fruit concentrate in dextrose, fructose and barley malt extract/ other carbohydrates to the admixture of the soy protein isolate and the milk/casein protein isolate under a predefined temperature in a blender.

[0018] According to a first aspect of the invention, it further includes adding a predetermined amount of soluble dietary fiber and a predetermined amount of citri fiber infused in guar gum as an emulsifier and thinking agent in the blender.

Detailed Description of the Invention

[0031] The following description discloses several methods and materials of the present invention. This invention is susceptible to modifications in the methods and materials, as well as alterations in the fabrication methods and equipment. Such modifications will become apparent to those skilled in the art from a consideration of this disclosure or practice of the invention disclosed herein. Consequently, it is not intended that this invention be limited to the specific embodiments disclosed herein, but that it cover all modifications and alternatives coming within the true scope and spirit of the invention as embodied in the attached claims.

[0032] Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are directed towards a method of preparing a nutraceutical powdered beverage that can readily be reconstituted to provide a palatable drink for the obese and the like. It is an objective of the present invention to provide a highly protein rich food drink recommended for weight management, and for a variety of health benefits as described in the invention.

[0033] According to an exemplary aspect of the present invention, the method of preparing a nutraceutical powdered beverage comprises the following steps:

[0034] In the first step of a preferred embodiment towards achieving the invention, a soy protein isolate is blended with milk/casein protein isolate in high speed blenders at predefined temperature.


[0035] In accordance with a non limiting exemplary aspect of the present invention, spray dried fruit concentrate in dextrose, fructose and barley malt extract/ other carbohydrates are added to an admixture of soy protein isolate and milk/casein protein isolate extract in high speed blenders under the predefined conditions. To the admixture predetermined amount of soluble dietary fiber and citri fiber infused in guar gum as an emulsifier and stabilizing agent are added and finally a potent sweetener like l00mg rebaudioside A or 60mg sucralose per l00g of the powdered beverage composition in a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The composition is finally made up with predefined vitamins, minerals and natural fat burners.

[0036] According to an exemplary aspect, the granular soy protein isolate is a hydrolysate of soy protein available in a granular form that makes the bulk of the powdered beverage.

[0037] The soy protein isolate can be obtained by methods which can be understood by a person skilled in the art. The hydrolysate of soy protein can be obtained by hydrolyzing aqueous slurry of defatted soy flour containing a specific quantity of solid content using proteolytic enzyme under predefined pH and temperature conditions, at a certain degree of hydrolysis (DH) while stirring the mass for a stipulated time. The enzyme is inactivated by a known method and the pH value of the slurry is neutralized. The soy solids are separated and the clarified liquor so obtained is subjected to drying under specified conditions to get the soy protein isolate.

[0038] According to an exemplary aspect, the milk/casein protein isolate from defatted milk. The milk/casein protein powder is used in the preferred composition of the present invention. Milk/casein protein is a mixture of globular proteins isolated from milk, wherein the liquid material is created as a by product of cheese production. Milk/casein protein is separated from the remaining liquid milk using a specialty filter. The concentrated liquid is then further concentrated to get pure milk/casein protein. It is then spray dried to be used as a bulking agent for the preparation of powdered beverage.

[0039] The natural fruit concentrate includes at least one or more of a spray dried powder of mango, orange, pineapple and apple flavors and the like. These concentrated fruit powder add the original aroma of a variety of fruits to the beverage powder. Application of any natural flavor derived from plants, herbs and the like are not excluded from the spirit of the present form of the invention. The addition of a predefined amount of natural fruit along with barley malt extract concentrate to the powdered beverage is accomplished through a conventional method. The fruit powdered beverage composition is subjected to milling subsequently.

Any one of the sweetener can be used in a different quantity as an alternative to sucralose. The sweetening agents can also be used as a combination of more than one agent in a predetermined ratio in different compositions of the powdered beverage.

And such a combination of rebaudioside A with other sweetener varies with different powdered beverage compositions for at least one particular application that is anticipated.

[0046] In an exemplary composition with in the scope of the present invention, the nine essential amino acids may include but not limited to Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, Valine and the like. The vitamins used in the present composition may include but not limited to vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, thiamin(Bl), riboflavin(B2), niacin(B3), pantothenic acid(B5), vitamin B6, biotin(B7), folic acid(B9), vitamin B12, vitamin K and the like. The minerals used in the present composition may include but not limited to calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, copper, selenium, chromium, magnesium, iodine, phosphorous, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, chloride and the like. The natural fat burners may include but not limited to hydroxycitric acid, conjugated linoleic acid, L-cartinine and the like. The sweeteners may include but not limited to stevia extract, saccharin, cyclamate, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, alitame, neotame and the like. The other carbohydrates in the present composition may include but not limited to glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, lactose, raffinose, stachyose, bamylose, amylopectin, cellulose and the like. The composition further includes flavoring agents which may include but not limited to vanilla flavor, chocolate flavor, pineapple flavor, orange flavor, mango flavor, banana flavor and the like.

It is used for its potential ability to slow fat storage in the human body. Therefore, while the embodiments of this invention have been described in connection with particular examples thereof, the true scope of the embodiments of the invention should not be so limited since other modifications will be apparent to the skilled practitioner upon a study of the drawings and following claims.


CLAIMS What is claimed is

1. A method of preparing a nutraceutical powdered beverage composition, comprising:

blending a soy protein isolate with a milk/casein protein isolate, whereby the blending forms an admixture of the soy protein isolate and the milk protein isolate;

adding predetermined amount of fruit concentrate in dextrose, fructose and barley malt extract/other carbohydrates to the admixture of the soy protein isolate and the milk/casein protein isolate under a predefined temperature in a blender;

adding a predetermined amount of soluble dietary fiber and a predetermined amount of citri fiber in the blender;

incorporating a predetermined amount of at least one potent sweetener and a predetermined amount of natural fat burners;

milling the powdered beverage composition to obtain a homogenized powdered beverage composition;

drying the homogenized powdered beverage composition at a predefined temperature under vacuum to obtain a dried powdered beverage composition; and

subjecting the dried powdered beverage composition to granular filtration to obtain the protein rich powdered beverage, free from particulate contaminants.

2. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1, wherein the soy protein isolate comprises

hydrolysate of soy protein obtained by dehulling and defatting the soybean meal.

3. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1, wherein the milk/casein protein isolate

comprises defatted milk protein.


4. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1 comprising: at least 20 to 70g of protein;

at least 20 to 70g of carbohydrates per l00g of the composition.

5. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1 comprising: at least 10 to 20g of spray dried fruit concentrate in dextrose; at least 10 to 20g of fructose; at least 5 to 20g of barley malt extract/10 to 20g of other carbohydrates per l00g of the composition.

6. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1 comprising: at least 10 to 15g of soluble dietary fiber; at least 100 to 200mg of citri fiber infused in guar gum per lOOg of the composition.

7. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1, wherein the at least one potent sweetener comprising: stevia extract; sucralose; neotame; aspartame; sodium saccharin; sorbital; and acesulfame K, and a combination thereof.

8. The potent sweetener of claim 7 comprises at least l00mg rebaudioside A or 60mg sucralose per l00g of the composition in one embodiment of the present invention.

9. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1 further comprises a plurality of multivitamins, a plurality of minerals.

10. The nutraceutical powdered beverage according to claim 1, wherein the natural fat burners may comprise at least one of:

hydroxy citric acid; conjugated linoleic acid; and 1-cartinine.
