Specification

The present disclosure described herein, in general, belongs to the technical field of engines. In particular, the present disclosure relates to an improved oil sump assembly for a vehicle's engine structure.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed subject matter, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] Existing oil sumps of the vehicle's engine perform a single function of storing oil and preventing its leakage. The other components such as oil filters, oil pumps, catalytic converter are connected to the oil sump separately. The issues associated with separate connections of such components lead to engine external interface complexity, sealing difficulties, messy and bulky arrangement due to a number of pipelines which in turn incurs high assembly cost.
[0004] In view of these issues, there is a need to provide a solution which overcomes the above-mentioned problems.
OBJECTS OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0005] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfy, are listed hereinbelow.
[0006] It is a general or primary object of the present disclosure to provide an oil sump assembly for a vehicle's engine structure wherein the oil filter, oil pump, and catalytic converter are attached with the oil sump.

[0007] It is another object of the present disclosure to provide an oil sump assembly that has high rigidity and strength.
[0008] Another object of the present subject matter is to provide an oil sump assembly that provides an increased volume for oil storage.
[0009] These and other objects and advantages will become more apparent when reference is made to the following description and accompanying drawings.

[0024] FIGS. 1A-1D shows the oil sump assembly 100 in accordance with the present disclosure. FIG. 1A shows the joined or connected oil sump assembly 100 which comprises an upper panel 100a connected with a lower panel 100b. The lower panel 100b is basically a reservoir tank for storing oil. FIG. IB shows a front view of the side edges of the upper panel 100a of the oil sump assembly 100. The upper panel 100a has side edges 102. An oil filter mounting structure 104 is integrated with the outer surface of one of the side edges 102. There is an oil pump mounting structure 106 which is formed adjacent to the oil filter mounting structure 104 and a catalytic converter mounting structure 107 also formed on the outer surface of one of the side edges 102 of the upper oil panel 100a. The catalytic converter mounting structure 107 comprises an H-shaped rib 108. FIG. 1C shows an assembly of an oil filter assembly 110, an oil pump assembly 112, and the catalytic converter assembly 114, which are mounted on the oil filter mounting structure 104, oil pump mounting structure 106 and the catalytic converter mounting structure 107, respectively (not visible in the FIG. 1C) of the upper panel 100a of the oil sump assembly 100. In an exemplary embodiment, the upper panel 100a is made of but not limited to aluminium and is produced by casting. In a preferred embodiment, the oil filter mounting structure 104, the oil pump mounting structure 106 and the catalytic converter mounting structure 107 are formed on the same outer surface of one of the side edges 102 of the upper panel 100a. This implies that the oil filter assembly 110, the oil pump assembly 112 and the catalytic converter assembly 114 can also be mounted on the same outer surface of one of the side edges 102 of the upper panel 100a.
[0025] FIG. ID shows the front view of the bottom surface of the upper panel 100a. The upper panel 100a has a connecting face 116 which is to be connected on the connecting face 116 (not shown in the FIGS.) of the lower panel 100b. The connecting face 116 of the upper panel 100a and the connecting face 116 of the

lower panel 100b is identical in design so as to form a tight and sealed joint between them and are joined with the help of fastening means like bolts, rivets or like or by means of welding. The connecting face 116 of the upper panel 100a and the lower panel 100b forms an inverted U-shaped profile 116a in the region of the oil filter mounting structure 104 and forms an inverted L-shaped profile 116b covering the oil filter mounting structure 104 till the catalytic converter mounting structure 107. The inverted U-shaped and the inverted L-shaped profiles 116a, 116b of the connecting face 116 on the upper panel 100a and the lower panel 100b give rigidity and strength to the oil sump assembly 100 for bearing the load or weight of oil filter assembly 110, oil pump assembly 112, and catalytic converter assembly 114. Also, the inverted U-shaped and the inverted L-shaped profiles 116a, 116b of the connecting face 116 on the upper panel 100a and the lower panel 100b increase the volume or capacity of the oil that can be stored in the oil sump assembly 100. In an experimental analysis, when the present disclosed oil sump assembly 100 was compared with an existing oil pan, it was found that the disclosed oil sump assembly 100 has a 5.1% improved noise vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics in accordance with computer-aided engineering (CAE) results. This is again achieved with the help of the inverted U-shaped and the inverted L-shaped profiles 116a, 116b of the connecting face 116. Therefore, with the provision of the mounting structures for attachment or mounting of an oil filter assembly 110, oil pump assembly 112 and the catalytic converter assembly 114 to the oil sump assembly 100 helps in avoiding external interface complexity, sealing difficulties, messy and bulky arrangement due to a number of pipelines which in turn lowers assembly cost.
