Abstract: 1. Online internet security system.based on USB flash drive, comprising a flash drive having a distinctive number a computer with a USB port for insertion of the flash drive therein; software means (I) for encrypting the distinctive number along with time stamp and communicating the same to at least one designated server and (2) for verifying the physical presence of the said flash drive in the said port, such that user access to the said server is rendered possible only after (i) the internet usemame and password are punched into the keyboard of the said computer and (ii) such identification and verification are successfully completed.
This invention relates to online internet security system based on USB flash drive which is popularly known as a pen drive.
Generally hatchet surfers have to make use of user names and passwords for the purpose of accessing specific websites. Such websites include sensitive sites, such as, banking sites, e.mail sites, financial sites and so on.
It is known that unscrupulous persons hack into these sites by getting hold of passwords and confidential data of bona fide users wifely the purpose of misusing these sites for their personal gain. There are, what are known as keyboard and screen logging programs and phishing websites which illegally capture data entered through the keyboard as well as data appearing on the screen of users for misusing such data. It is therefore an object of this invention to prevent such abuse from taking place by ensuring that even if a potential hacker does capture the user name and password of the bona fide user of the internet
Various features of this invention will be apparent from the following description.
The online internet security system based on USB flash drive, according to this invention, comprises a flash drive having a distinctive number; a computer with a USB port for insertion of the flash drive terrain; software means (1) for encrypting the distinctive number along with time stamp and communicating the same to at least one designated server and (2) for verifying the physical presence of the said flash drive in the said port., such that user access to the said server is rendered possible only after (i) the internet usemame and password are punched into the keyboard of the said computer and (ii) such identification and verification are successfully completed.
The bona fide user who wishes to access a designated server = of an internet website punches the internet usemame and password on the keyboard. Normally, however, this operation should
straightaway enable the user to access the server and open the website, but, in view of the fact that hackers can achieve the same result by means of stolen usemame and password, this invention seeks to prevent such occurrence in the following manner:
The system proposed herein incorporates a computer . In the USB port of the said computer the user inserts a flash drive. This flash drive is a commercially available off-the-shelf computer accessory which has a distinctive number allotted to it by the manufacturer during manufacture. Software means are provided for the computer ,'.. Such software means encrypt the distinctive number of the flash drive along with the time stamp and communicate the same to the server ; (to which access is sought) where it is stored.
The software means will also verify that the said flash drive is physically present in the USB port (and not a mere ghost which a hacker may resort to), such
distinctive number along with time stamp and verification are successfully completed and communicated to the server for authentication.
By the aforementioned system a bona Me user will be able to access specific websites only if he punches in the correct user name and password on the computer keyboard; then inserts a flash drive into the USB port of the computer, the distinctive of which has ahead been authenticated with the designated server or servers of the said websites, for enabling the software means to identify the distinctive number and verify the physical presence of the flash drive in the USB port, to provide access to the said websites.lt will be appreciated that various other embodiments of this invention are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of tins invention.
