Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides an ophthalmic pham1aceutical composition comprising a combination of t1uoroquinolone antibacterial agent and an anti-inflammatory agent along with a cornplexing agent and water, wherein the cornposition preferably having a pH between 10 4 and 8. Further, the present invention also relates to the methods of making an ophthalmic pharmaceutical composition as described herein and using the same. 15 The present invention also provides a method of treating and/or preventing an ophthalmic condition in a patient. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Inflammatory reactions can cause tissue damage. promoting scar formation in the eyes and its appendages, this condition can lead to tmdesired functional impairments. For these reasons, post cataract and other eye surgeries, medications such as anti-inflammatory drugs are 20 often administered to aid in the healing process. To prevent this, the anti-int1ammatory drugs are typically delivered to the ocular surface and the front of the eye in the form of eye drops. In surgical treatment of the anterior segment of the eye, for example, in cataract surgery, post-operative inflammation can be reduced by the pre-operative and post-operative use of NSAIDs administered to the eye. There is a correlation between the blepharoconjunctival 25 microbial flora present in the pre-operative stage of cataract Surgery and the infectious agents isolated from post-operative endophthalmitis. For this reason, it is common practice to sterilize or disinfect the external eye structure, both prior to surgery and post-operatively, until there is no longer a possibility of infection in the surgical wound, by treatment with an antibiotic. Therefore, a combination of suitable antibiotics either a steroid or an anti-inflammatory drug 30 such as NSAIDs are useful for the treatment of eye and/or ear infections and ear injuries. The results of cataract surgery depend on the surgeon's technique as well as the patient's healing in the postoperative period. By using antibiotics to stave off infection, corticosteroids to modulate healing and NSAIDs to quell int1ammation, we can ensure optimal visual outcomes for our cataract surgery patients.
