Optical Fiber Fusion Splicer
Abstract: An optical fiber fusion splicer comprises: a windshield cover which has a rotational shaft and opens and closes by rotating around said rotational shaft; a rope member winding section which is fixed to the windshield cover or formed as a part of the windshield cover on the same axial line as said rotational shaft of the windshield cover and rotatable in the forward or backward direction around said rotational shaft; a first rope member wrapping section that is a rotary pulley non rotary pulley or a rotary gear; a closed loop member which includes the deformable rope member that is wound and wrapped around said rope member winding section and said first rope member wrapping section to constitute a closed loop; and a detector which detects the closing of said windshield cover and if the detector cannot detect the closing of said windshield cover even when said windshield cover operates to close provides a warning display and prevents the optical fiber fusion splicer from advancing to a subsequent fusion splicing operation. When a driving force from a drive mechanism applies a pull force to said rope member such that said rope member winding section rotates in the forward direction said windshield cover opens and when the driving force applies said pull force to said rope member such that said rope member winding section rotates in the backward direction said windshield cover closes. The optical fiber fusion splicer is characterized by satisfying at least one of the following conditions (1) to (4): (1) Said closed loop member has an elastic member that couples both ends of said rope member. (2) At least a part of said rope member is elastic. (3) Said first rope member wrapping section is movably provided such that said rope member can be elastically biased. (4) Said fusion splicer further includes a second rope member wrapping section around which said rope member is wrapped the second rope member wrapping section being movably provided so as to elastically bias said rope member.
