Organic El Element

Abstract: Provided is an organic EL element comprising the following: a transparent support substrate; a diffraction grating disposed on the transparent support substrate and comprising an uneven layer on the surface of which a first unevenness is formed; and a transparent electrode, an organic layer provided with at least a light emitting layer, and a metal electrode that are sequentially laminated on the diffraction grating so that the shape of the first unevenness formed on the surface of the diffraction grating is maintained. The organic EL element satisfies the following conditions (A)-(C). Condition (A): In a case where a Fourier transform image is obtained by conducting two-dimensional fast Fourier transform processing on an unevenness analysis image obtained by analyzing the shape of the first unevenness using an atomic force microscope, the Fourier transform image indicates a circular or annular pattern substantially centered at an origin where the wave number absolute value is Oµm-1 , and the circular or annular pattern is present within a region that falls within a range where the wave number absolute value is no more than IOµm-1. Condition (B): The standard deviation of the unevenness depth distribution of both the first unevenness and a second unevenness formed on the top surface of a surface opposing the organic layer of the metal electrode is li-100nm; and the standard deviation is found on the basis of an unevenness analysis image obtained by analyzing the shape of the unevenness using an atomic force microscope. Condition (C): The rate of variability of the standard deviation of the second-unevenness depth distribution is +15% to -15% with respect t o the standard deviation of the first-unevenness depth distribution.
