DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The invention as described herein provides an organic, safe, quick to act, economical insect /pest repellent cum fertilizer (a fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent) which is prepared from easily available natural resources. This fertilizer cum insect repellent has been tried on wheat, maize, paddy and some other crops such as cotton.
In a first aspect, the invention relates to a fertilizer and an insect / pest repellent preferably an organic fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent comprising constituents of neem, constituents of sitafal (custard apple), constituents of Jaifal (Nutmeg) and constituents of cow urine. The composition may be diluted for further use.
The amounts in which these constituents are used are as follows:
1. Neem leaves from 0.2 % to 20 %, preferably from 0.5 % to 15 % and most preferably at 1-10 % w/v.
2. Custard apple leaves from 0.1% - 10 %, preferably at 0.5 % w/v
3. Nutmeg seed powder from 0.1 % to 10 %, preferably at 0.5 % w/v.
The constituents with their preferred quantities are provide in table 1 under example 1. In an embodiment, Neem leaves are added at 1 % w/v; Custard apple leaves are added at 0.5 % w/v and nutmeg powder is added at 0.5 % w/v.
In another embodiment, Neem leaves are added at 5 % w/v; Custard apple leaves are added at 2.5 % w/v and nutmeg powder is added at 2.5 % w/v.
In yet another embodiment, Neem leaves are added at 10 % w/v; Custard apple leaves are added at 5 % w/v and nutmeg powder is added at 0.5 % w/v. In one more embodiment, Neem leaves are added at 10 % w/v; Custard apple leaves are added at 5 % w/v and nutmeg powder is added at 2.5 % w/v.

The fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent is preferably diluted before application. The dilution factor can be 1:100 to 1:1, preferably 1:10. The diluent is water or cow urine. The constituents of neem and sitafal (custard apple) are derived from leaves whereas constituents of Jaifal (Nutmeg) are derived from the seed.

The said fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent is completely organic, low cost, highly effective and produced from easily available resources. Its use dispenses away need to buy, use and store highly hazardous chemical fertilizers as well as pesticides.

Under second aspect, the fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent is quick to act, economical and prepared from readily available natural resources. All raw materials are readily available at affordable cost. Neem is native to the Indian subcontinent, i.e. India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. It is typically grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions. Neem is easily available across India. Custard apple production in India is around 300,000 tonnes. Nutmeg seeds are easily available as nutmeg is one of the spices used in Indian Subcontinent.
Yet another important ingredient of the fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent is Cow’s urine. The urine is collected preferably from Cows of Indian Origin. Preferably the cows are aged cows which are of age 5 and above, preferably of age 10 and above which cannot produce milk in sufficient amounts or cannot produce milk at all and otherwise sent to slaughter house. Several states in India have banned slaughtering of cows. Manufacture of organic fertilizer cum insect /pest repellent using urine of aged cows provides a new business prospect wherein aged cows are cared and fed properly, and their urine is utilized for production of said fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent. The second aspect also covers the quick action of the fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent. The insect / pest repellent effects are seen as early as beginning on the same day, preferably within few hours of direct application. It is preferred that the mixture of the present invention is applied to the top of leaves, buds of plants and also on the soil around the plant.

The third aspect of the invention is to provide completely organic fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent wherein ratio of amount of composition required to act as insect / pest repellent to amount of composition required to act as fertilizer, when in diluted form, is from 1:0.5 to 1:20, preferably 1:1 to 1:10 and most preferably 1:1 to 1:5. Re-application of the compositions of the present invention can be made as necessary, to repel the pests/insects attacking the plants. Application once in a month as well as once in a week have been found effective. For example, for maize for total cultivation period, the compositions can be used once every month or once every week in reduced amounts. Alternatively, compositions can be used once in two months.
In an embodiment following two compositions are tried for the crop of maize at different times.
In a first case, for 1acre land, at least around 0.5 - 1 litre of fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent (diluted) is used per 100 sq. m per week for 4 weeks. When 0.5 to 1 litre of composition is used, it contains around 45 - 90 ml of undiluted composition. At this level, it is found to act as both fertilizer enhancing the growth of the crop as well as insect / pest repellent.
In second case, at least around 0.1 – 0.2 litre of composition per 50 sq. m is used per week for 4 weeks. This diluted composition has 9 - 18 ml of undiluted composition. At this level, it is found to act as insect / pest repellent but has less effect on growth of the crop.
Thus, it allows farmer to select amount as per use (pesticidal or fertilizer or both) if the farmer wants to use the composition only for pests and is using another fertilizer for growth of the plant.
In another embodiment, 5 litres of diluted composition is used per 200 sq. m. once in a month for 1 acre land. In yet another embodiment, 5 litres of composition is used per 100 sq. m once every two months.
Diluted composition means composition obtained by filtration and further diluted with water in ratios from 1:1 to 1:100, preferably 1: 5 to 1:50 and most preferably 1:10.
However, it is not essential that the compositions should be used in diluted form, however preferably, the filtered composition should be diluted.
Whether the composition should be diluted or not and how much should be the dilution depends upon the type of pest and whether it is susceptible or resistant strain etc.
In a most preferred embodiment, the compositions of the present invention are used as follows for 1-acre land having crop such as maize, wheat, paddy, cotton, bottle gourd, okra, chickpeas etc. They can be applied in organic gardens and on fruits and vegetables. Table 2 under example 2 provides application of compositions of the present invention.

The compositions of the present invention act as fertilizer and contributes in substantial yield of crops by providing sufficient and healthy nutrition required for growth of crops. Further, the compositions of the present invention act as insect / pest repellent by causing one or more of repellence, paralysis or suffocation.

The fourth aspect is to provide a product which is an alternative to highly toxic / irritant pesticides and insecticides which dispenses away the need to procure, store and use hazardous chemicals. Globally in regulated markets, patented pesticide products constitute about 20-22% share of the total pesticide market. These pesticides are hazardous and main focus today is to develop newer pesticides which are effective in very low concentrations and their synergistic mixtures. Currently, India is the fourth largest global producer of pesticides with an estimated market size of around $4.9 billion in FY17 after United States, Japan and China. This data provides need to use pesticides to improve production of agricultural produce. However, use of hazardous pesticide chemicals are difficult to handle, store, use and if they are not properly washed off from the produce, they create health hazard. The present invention provides an insecticide / pesticide which is neither toxic nor irritating, safe to use and easily washed off from the produce without leaving any chemical residue. The re-application of the fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent is possible due to the attributes of safety and stability combined with efficacy.

The Fifth aspect covers process of preparation of fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent. The preparation of the fertilizer cum insect / pest repellent takes at least 30 days, preferably from 30 – 60 days and most preferably from 35-50 days. The preparation proceeds through formation of a first mixture followed by a second / final mixture. The first mixture comprises neem leaves, custard apple leaves and cow urine. The first mixture is subjected to Sunlight during day-time for a period of at least 30 days and preferably around 35-50 days. The second mixture / a final mixture comprises the filtrate of first mixture after it is subjected to sunlight during day-time for at least 30 days and after Jaifal (Nutmeg) seed powder is added. Preferably, the nutmeg powder is finely ground. The mixture of filtrate and nutmeg powder are kept for at least 6 hrs to 48 hrs to allow maximum solubilization of finely ground nutmeg powder during which the mixture may remain exposed to sunlight for entire time or for few hrs.
5. The mixture is filtered and diluted with water before use in a ratio of from 1:1 to 1:100, preferably 1:10.
The compositions of the present invention are preferably applied by spraying. They are safe to use and user need not use anything like gloves or headgear or protective clothing. However, it is preferred that the user take measures to keep the compositions away from face and eyes during application, as a precautionary measure.
Thus, the composition of the present invention are easy to prepare from naturally available resources, and easy to store, stable and economical. Farmers can easily prepare these compositions by themselves without requiring any technique or equipment. They serve many purposes right from utilizing natural resources such as sunlight which is available in plenty and prohibiting cow slaughtering to initiating a business activity and independence of farmers.
