Abstract: Organic vermifilter based compact and mobile sewage treatment plant cum water recovery system comprises organic layer of poplar wood chips mixed with earthworm (Eisinia fetida) species in a polyvinyl chloride perforated tray removes the organic pollutants (COD/BOD/Ammonia) present in wastewater to 95% and the said inorganic medium of coarse and fine sand that removes the suspended solids present in wastewater to 95-98%. The said treated water is passed through pressurized sand filtration followed by specialized nano filtration membranes to remove the harmful dissolved solids organically. The said system is exclusively designed in 19Ft × 7 Ft total area to mount on a truck and it requires minimal power requirement i.e. 4.25KW per hour to get potable quality water from sewage. The present mobile water system is designed to produce potable water from a wide range of wastewater sources in a 100% green, innovative, effective and affordable way.

Specification

The present invention relates to the field of wastewater recycling. Specifically, the present
invention relates to organic vermifilter based compact and mobile sewage treatment plant cum
water recovery system. More particularly the present invention relates to water recovering
process involving vermi filtration, ozone disinfection membrane filtration and solar energy.
Particularly the present invention relates to mobile water recovering process that is designed to
produce potable water from a wide range of wastewater sources in a 100% Green, Innovative,
effective and affordable way.
BACKGROUND
India will need 1.5 trillion liters water by 2030, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
Almost 80 per cent of the water supplied to a household is discharged as wastewater, which is
mostly untreated. An estimated 62,000 million liters per day of sewage is generated in urban
areas, while the treatment capacity across India is half of that. Currently, 93 percent of untreated
sewage finds its ways to our water bodies leading to various waterborne diseases agricultural
contamination as well as environmental degradation. On one side our country is becoming water
scarce due to urbanization and its related population explosion. Conventionally centralized
STP’S have been adopted but have fallen short due to large area requirement, less efficiency,
complex/ higher high operational expenses and more stabilization time.
India’s ravage Corona virus outbreak highlighted the increasing need of potable water in
emergency situations, therefore there is a strong need for swift responses to water crisis in case
of any downtime, facility maintenance and emergency drinking water shortage is ever increasing.
On the spot treatment covering larger areas is non-existent. This decentralized and portable
wastewater management approach can be considered as a sustainable and cost-effective
alternative as it treats discharges or reuses the effluent on the spot.
In the rapidly urbanising cities of developing countries, decentralised wastewater treatment
systems are an attractive solution for addressing the problems of water pollution and scarcity.
They have been promoted extensively due to their low operation and maintenance requirements
and smaller scale investments.

The present invention provides a solution for the problem by developing an Vermifilter based
compact and mobile STP cum water recovery system”, converting sewage or grey or effluent
from organic industries into potable water quality as per WHIO- BIS standards without the use
of chemicals and RO membrane in a mobile manner which means that this plant can be moved or
placed or installed to any location as per the requirement.
Further the present invention is developed studying and experiencing all the facts and practical
issues associated with the conventional centralized treatment plant, like its designing, difficult to
operate and maintain efficacy, low recovery. The present invention provides a solution for long
time taking treatment step and most importantly to give maximum benefit at minimal cost.
OBJECT OF INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide vermifilter based compact and mobile STP
cum water recovery system.
It is one object of the present invention, wherein the said process comprises vermi filtration,
membrane filtration and solar energy.
It is another object of the present invention, wherein the said process is an on-site treatment
concept, which is one of the most attractive approaches ever done in water/wastewater treatment
industry as a plug and play system.
It is even another object of the present invention, wherein the said mobile water recovery process
is designed to produce safe drinking water from a wide range of wastewater sources like sewage
in a 100% green, innovative and effective.
It is one another object of the present invention, wherein the said process is completely
affordable and can be operated by unskilled labor. It serves areas where water infrastructure is
non-existent or limited or contaminated.
It is another object of the present invention, wherein the said process is an independent system
which is readily installed in permanent or semi-permanent locations with minimal site
preparations required.

It is yet another object of the present invention, wherein the said invention makes the units ideal
for short term or mid-term water supply systems for mobile camps, work sites, missions,
villages, colonies and their extended communities.
SUMMARY
The main aspect of the present invention is to provide organic vermifilter based compact and
mobile sewage treatment plant cum water recovery system comprises: vermifilter bed of two
layers wherein the said layers are organic and inorganic layers.
It is one aspect of the present invention, wherein the said organic layer comprises poplar wood
chips mixed with earthworm (Eisinia fetida) species in a polyvinyl chloride perforated tray.
It is one aspect of the present invention, wherein the said inorganic medium comprises of coarse
and fine sand that removes the suspended solids present in wastewater.
It is one aspect of the present invention, wherein the said treated water is passed through
pressurized sand filtration and ozonation followed by specialized nano filtration membranes to
remove the harmful dissolved solids organically.
It is one aspect of the present invention, wherein the said system is exclusively designed in 19Ft
× 7 Ft total area to mount on a truck.
It is one aspect of the present invention, wherein the said system required minimal power
requirement i.e., 4.25KW per hour to get potable quality water from sewage.
It is one aspect of the present invention, wherein the said system is also powered with solar
hybrid system, mounted at the top.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 illustrates the flow chart of the design of mobile STP water recovery system, according
to the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The present invention relates to organic vermifilter based compact and mobile sewage treatment
plant cum water recovery system comprises vermifilter bed of two layers wherein the said layers
are organic and inorganic layers, the said organic layer comprises poplar wood chips mixed with
earthworm (Eisinia fetida) species in a polyvinyl chloride perforated tray. The said inorganic
medium comprises of coarse and fine sand that removes the suspended solids present in
wastewater. The said treated water is passed through pressurized sand filtration followed by
specialized nano-filtration membranes to remove the harmful dissolved solids organically.

The present invention further comprises sewage collection tank pit, strainer, vermi filter,
immediate pit, ozonation tank, recirculation pump, filters, high pressure pump, and disinfecting
unit.
The said sewage collection tank is connected to strainer then to vermifilter, then the treated water
is transferred to immediate pit. Now the treated water undergoes pre disinfection by ozone and
passed to recirculation pump and then to ozonation tank.
Now the said treated water is passes through filter feed tank, then pump and it is filtered using
dual media filter. The treated water is now passed by means of high-pressure pump to cartilage
filter and dual membranes. In this stage reject or liquid fertilizer is collected, that can be used
safely as soil conditioner.
Further the treated water is passed through post disinfection treatment following remineralization using calcium and magnesium compounds. Finally, the portable water with
matching WHO-BIS standard 85% is obtained.
Process of recovering water using mobile STP cum water recovery system:
The process of recovering water using vermi filter of the present comprising the principal of
vermi-Filtration where specially bred worm species and a mix of bacteria act on the pollutants
and suspended solids in the raw sewage and biologically degrade in an environmentally safe
manner.
The first step of the present process is adding poplar wood chips with earthworm (Eisinia fetida)
specie along with the consortium of beneficial microbes(catalyst) followed by natural Inorganic
media (pebbles, crushed stone, sand) to get 100% green wastewater treatment with minimal
energy and maintenance cost. The said technology removes 90% COD, BOD, TSS present in
sewage or wastewater. The present invention won’t generate any kind of sludge which is there in
other technologies and have not utilized any chemicals to treat wastewater. The said process
requires re-filling of poplar wood chips once in a year. Degraded wood chips are a natural highly
nutrient rich fertilizer that can be used directly for agricultural or horticultural application
without any treatment or filtration. The levels of NPK in this fertilizer are far higher than an
ordinary fertilizer.

The second step of the present invention, disinfecting the treated water by ozonation i.e., by
adding ozone gas in the treated water to remove the harmful bacteria’s present in treated water.
Oxygen Concentrators are installed at site only. They take oxygen from the environment and
water which is being taken through re-circulation pump, concentrate its oxygen level and gives
to ozonator which convert that nascent oxygen into Ozone gas by ozone cells installed inside.
This natural ozone is then injected into treated water through a venture system at 3.5kg/cm2
pressure. This naturally generated zone gas disinfects the treated water 300 times more
effectively than other disinfection systems like chlorine/bromine dosing without any
consumables and completely safe in handling, because others are not.
The third step of the present invention is passing the treated water through a dual media filter and
then passed though cartridge filter to remove the suspended particles present in water. Then, this
water is passed through a specialized PVDF Nano membrane to remove the balance bacterial/
viruses count present in water along with the harmful dissolved solids so that this water can be
suitable for drinking as per TDS levels. After membrane this water is then again re-mineralized
with Ca and Mg as it is necessary to have minerals in potable water, which is generally removed
through the RO’s generally used in every house. After this step, the water is again passed
through post disinfection step i.e., by UV system to make it 100% safe for drinking application
and matching WHO- BIS standards. The recovery on this plant is 85% which is also not possible
with other membrane (specially RO). The 15% reject coming from other stream of membrane is
also safe and nutrient rich that can be used for horticulture applications.
The Complete process is assembled into a carrier unit, which makes it more efficient and highly
responsive. Particularly, the present invention is mounted on a tractor or on a container.
Further the present invention utilizes solar energy to power the system, making the unit hybrid to
run on electrical power as well as solar power to make it a completely sustainable, autonomous
and independent system.

Working of the water recovery process:
Working of the present invention is described below for the better understanding of the process
and not to construe to limit the scope of the invention.
The wastewater or raw sewage gets pumped through special sewage submersible pumps. These
submersible pumps (1W+1S directly dropped in the tank/ pit where the wastewater is collected.
These pumps can handle 40mm solids mix with wastewater, doesn’t allow the solids to settle at
the bottom, which we generally experienced with centrifugal type of pumps. The pump suction is
covered with a particular 50mm size mesh since there are unwanted material which may get
pumped and damage the pump machinery and other respective equipment.
The sewage is then passed through strainer (pre-filter), installed at the pump delivery line at
ground level to remove the micro particles like plastic or thermocol. There are two sets of
strainers (1W+1S) for hassle free operation even during maintenance. These strainers are of
450nm size, after passing through pre-filtration, sewage get evenly distributed on vermin filter
bed, where the biological treatment takes place.
The vermi-filter bed comprises of 2 layers i.e. Organic and Inorganic part. Organic layer
included the organic part i.e., Poplar wood chips (10-20mm size mixed with Earthworm (Eisinia
fetida) species in a PVC perforated tray. Tray size (600mm × 400mm × 150mm) is a special tray
i.e., water or chemical or heat resistant and UV stabilized with a life span of minimum 15 years.
As this wastewater is distributed over organic bed, it percolates in the organic media, that is
filled in 5 stacks one on one and remove the more than 90% of COD/BOD/TSS and 20% TDS
present in wastewater. After percolation from one stack to other, treated water comes down by
gravity and then passes through Inorganic media to remove suspended solid present in the
wastewater. The inorganic media comprises of coarse and fine sand that removes the suspended
solids present in wastewater. This is a continuous process, as sewage keeps on treating with
vermi-filter bed naturally and flows on gravity basis. This treated water is then disinfected by
diffusing ozone into the water with retention of 120 minutes to remove the 95% of harmful
bacteria left in treated water.

Further, this treated water is passed through pressurized sand filtration followed by specialized
nano filtration membranes to remove the harmful dissolved solids organically, and give us
drinking water quality water followed by post disinfection again with UV and then remineralization by doing Calcium and Magnesium to match this water to WHO-BIS standard.
The complete process of water recovery works on hybrid i.e., can be run by solar energy as well
as from grid supply. The present invention is assembled in a MS fabricated enclosure that can be
mounted on 17- or 19-feet truck.
