FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to outlet comp ventilator in open section of the vehicle.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
Ventilator is provided in a vehicle so as to exhaust inner cabin air to outer
environment. Placement of ventilator requires a flat area with no interference
with the adjacent parts.
Currently available outlet comp ventilator is located in closed area i.e. in side
or rear area of vehicle. Said outlet comp ventilator comprises outer cover, outlet
ventilator and seal. However, in some model of vehicles outer cover is not
provided for the ventilator. The comp ventilator is either snap fitted or fastened
to the body panel.
For snap fitted comp ventilator reference may be made to fig. 1, which includes
ventilator and seal. The ventilator is a single structure having a
square/rectangular profile with a plurality of open compartments (1.) for
outflow of cabin air to ambience. Further multitude of flap holders (2) are
provided for holding flap so as to cover the compartments. There is also
availability of an extended part (6) and, two snaps (3) for snapping ventilator on
body panel. This provision is made on one face of the ventilator. Other face of
the ventilator is integrated to multiple snaps (4) for snap fitting onto outer
cover/body panel.
In addition to the above, there is a hollow seal (5) to be fitted onto the bordering
area of one face of ventilator as shown.
However, the above is associated with the following drawbacks:

it is located in closed area.
-3-
- Cannot be implemented in open area such as in front of vehicle.
Another ventilator is known to be in existence which is placed in the front area
of cabin as shown in fig. 2. Said ventilator constitutes a plastic piece having
multitude of openings (O) for ventilation, which is in flow communication with
a tunnel for exit of cabin air to outer environment. However as the ventilator is
exposed to user, therefore the same is most likely to be damaged by the user.
Further, it involves high cost owing to provision of the tunnel and difficulty in
serviceability.
In the current circumstances, a ventilator is required to be introduced which
can be employed in the open section of vehicle without encountering issues of
known art as discussed hereinabove. Hence, the present invention proposes
outlet comp ventilator in open section of the vehicle.

(2') is sandwitched between inner (3') and outer (4') cover of ventilator. Now
said parts will be described one after another hereinbelow.
The ventilator as in fig. 3A comprises a quadrilateral hollow panel member (M)
with a flange (F) at each corner having a through hole (H) allowing passage of
screw during assembly of inner cover and ventilator with seal. The through
hole is extended into the boss of the ventilator.
The ventilator, one face of which illustrated in fig. 3A comprising of a plurality
of flap holders (4A, 4B) in two rows so as to provide coverage to the open
compartments (Q) of ventilator.
Further, it includes a projected member (5') to be supported by the inner cover
and atleast two snaps (6') for snapping the ventilator on body panel towards
cabin area.
In addition to the above, an extended lug (7') is placed adjacent to each of the
two flap holders (4A), i.e. two flap holders are located between the lugs. The
extended lug is situated in proximity to border and corner of the panel (M). The
extended lugs provide resting of the inner cover during assembly, which in turn
results in ease of assembly.
Other face of ventilator as shown in fig. 3B includes a boss (B) at each corner
flange. The functionality of the boss is to prevent rusting of self tapping screw
and guide screwing in the course of tightening.
A plurality of snaps (8') are positioned between the bosses as shown for snap
fitting of outer cover.
The above mentioned ventilator constitutes a single structure. .

The seal (2') as best seen in fig. 3A constitutes a quadrilateral hollow member
(M') with a flange (F') at each corner having a through hole (H'). This forms a
single piece preferably made of rubber, which corresponds to the ventilator
panel (M).
Referring to fig. 4 illustrating inner cover (3') consisting of a single piece. It is
an open box section to receive ventilator with seal and having an opening (O')
on base facing ventilator for ventilation. There is a part (P) next to the opening
for protecting projected member (5') of the ventilator upon assembly. It is also
provided with a through hole (Hi) in a flange (Fi) at each corner as shown so as
to accommodate the screw therethrough.
The flange at each corner establishes contact with the seal of ventilator
through body panel of vehicle.
The outer cover (4') forms a single piece which is also an open box section as
shown in fig. 3 to be snap fitted with the ventilator.
The ventilator together with inner and outer cover are preferably made of
plastic by injection molding without restricting scope of the invention to the
same. Thus other materials and methods readily apparent to a person skilled
in the art are understood to be within the ambit of invention.
The outlet comp ventilator of invention has the provision of both snap fitment
and screw tightening. This leads to compactness of the comp ventilator unlike
prior art accommodating snap fitment or screwing.
The ventilator is installed in front end of .vehicle in an open area as best seen in
fig. 5 indicating the following features:-

Front Grille-G
Panel-D
Flap-L
The comp ventilator is located in such a manner behind front grille (G) that
flapping of flaps (L) may not occur in dynamic condition of vehicle.
The outer cover (4') is devised to restrict entry of water, which may trickle down
from upper area of ventilator. Further, the ventilator is positioned at a suitable
height from ground such that water can't enter from lower area of vehicle.
Here, inner cover with sealing is provided as the ventilator is placed in open
area rather than a closed section as in other vehicle generally in its rear
skirt/rear quarter area.
The inner cover is screw tightened to ventilator thereby making them a single
assembly unit. Outer cover is snap fitted to the ventilator while inner cover is
screw tightened with the ventilator via seal and body panel.
The inner coyer is provided inside cabin and bolted to ventilator through panel
and seal from inside of vehicle so as to prevent damage to ventilator parts by
foot of driver and other things. Further, sealing is provided from outside of
panel so as to restrict water flow in cabin from outside of vehicle.
-8-
The sealing is designed in such a manner that no separate/additional sealing
is required from inside of cabin area to restrict water entry. Further, bolting of
inner cover into ventilator tightens the seal further and improves the sealing
against water leakage. As this design uses both inner and outer covers, hence
this type of ventilator can be used at open section area. No ciosed area is
•required in vehicle to accommodate this kind of ventilator as the design of part
itself provides proper sealing and covers which restrict the entry oi'wat::r inside
cabin and therefore protect the parts from damage too.
The outlet comp ventilator of invention can be implemented in front open area
of vehicle where there is constraint in locating the ventilator in side/rear of
vehicle i.e. in closed area due to unavailability of flat area for mounting and
also at the same time where cabin air pressure is required to be reduced while
closing the doors.
Advantageous Features
Usable in open area of vehicle.
- Compact.
- Less weight therefore reduced cost.
- Ventilator and inner cover are easily replaceable and serviceable in case
of damage/replacement of part.
- Release of more effective pressure per unit area of the venti i8tor opening,
compared to the conventional ventilator units used in closed section
areas, partially separated from passenger cabin (through carpets/trims
etc).
