Oxalate Functionalized Zn/Cu/Nio@Pani Plastic Nanocomposite For Multifunctional Applications

Abstract: Mixed metals (Zinc, Copper, and Nickel oxide) nanocomposites (NCs) show unique physical, optical, mechanical, electrical, and photocatalytic properties. Conducting polymers (CPs) like polyaniline (PANI) show high order of conductivity. Mixed metal oxide nanoparticles when combined with conducting polymer PANI sometime show a synergistic effect of their properties. Functionalization of mixed metal/PANI nanocomposites with a functional group like oxalate further enhances its properties like surface, electrical, adsorption, photocatalytic, optical, and mechanical. We have synthesized mixed metals (Zn/Cu/NiO) nanoparticles by the modified sol-gel method. PANI CPs were prepared by chemical-oxidative technique. In situ method was performed to prepare Zn/Cu/NiO/PANI nanocomposites. Functionalization of Zn/Cu/NiO/PANI nanocomposites was carried out by the oxalate functional group. FE-SEM, FTIR, UV-visible, and X-ray diffraction were employed for characterizing functionalized Zn/Cu/NiO/PANI/Oxalate nanocomposites. The four novel applications of nanocomposites that are magnetic, photocatalytic, electrical, and corrosion inhibition properties were investigated. The functionalized Zn/Cu/NiO/PANI/Oxalate NCs were proved paramagnetic. The NCs show 89.5% inhibition efficiency against corrosion for mild steel (MS) in dilute HCl. The photocatalytic activity of NCs was explored against methyl-red dye (MRD) in bright white light. The synthesized functionalized Zn/Cu/NiO /PANI/Oxalate NCs acted as very good nanomaterials for photocatalytic, electrical, magnetic, and corrosion protection.

Description:

Methods of synthesis of nanocomposites
AR grade chemicals like C2H5OH, AlCl3, C6H5NH2, (NH4)2S2O8, ZnNO3, CuNO3, AgNO3, HCl, and H2C2O4, were used. AlCl3, ethanol, aniline (monomer), Oxalic acid, NiO, CuO, and ZnO were procured from Fisher Scientific (purity 98.7%), CSS analytical reagent, Rankem, Finar (purity 99.5%), Sigma-Aldrich (purity 98.9%), Sigma-Aldrich (purity 99.0%) and Sigma-Aldrich (purity 99.99 %), respectively.

Modified sol-gel technique
A metal salt solution of ZnO, NiO, and CuO of 0.5 M was prepared by using distilled water. By adding 0.5 ml HNO3 to the solution, the pH was adjusted between 1-2. This was labeled as Sol A. Sol B comprised oxalic acid and ethanol (1:4 ratio). In a dropwise manner, Sol B was added to Sol A at 600 rpm and 70 °C (1 and 2). After 6 h, a brown color precipitate was obtained. A mixed metal QDs were stored in a glass vial.

Synthesis of PANI by Chemical-Oxidative technique
0.1 M metal salt was poured in 1.0 M aniline in 1.0 M HCl solution. With constant stirring, 1.0 M AlCl3 oxidant was used for the oxidation of the monomer. The reaction temperature was fixed at 4 °C (3 and 4). 1.0 M Ammonium persulphate (APS) in 1.0 M HCl solution was added. The reaction was monitored for 7 h. A dark black-green solid was ground to a fine powder and stored.
Synthesis of functionalized Zn/Cu/NiO/PANI nanocomposites
0.5 M of Zn/Cu/NiO/PANI NCs were added into 100 mL of distilled water. This solution was labeled as solution A. Solution B was prepared by adding 1.0 M of oxalic acid in 100 mL of distilled water. Solution C was prepared by taking 0.1 M of AlCl3 in 100 mL of distilled water. Solution B was added to Sol. A at 60 ? then add solution C into this and stir the solution for 2-3 h (5). The product was filtered and rinsed with distilled water, and drying of the product was done at 70 °C. The black precipitate obtained was ground to a fine powder (6).

We Claims:

i) Synthesis of Zn/Cu/NiO@PANI plastic nanocomposites (6) functionalized with oxalate functional groups (5) with multifunctional applications.
ii) The modified sol-gel technique (1 and 2) as claimed in Claim 1 for the synthesis of Zn/Cu/NiO metal nanocomposite (3 and 4).
iii) Characterization of nanocomposite as claimed in Claim 1 was carried out by FTIR, FESEM, UV-visible, and XRD techniques.
iv) The four applications (multifunctional) of nanocomposites as claimed in Claim 1 that is magnetic, photocatalytic, electrical, and anticorrosive material.
