Packaging Machine And A Conveyor Tray Therefor

Abstract: A packaging machine (100) and a conveyor tray (106) therefor are described. In an embodiment, the conveyor tray (106) includes a base plate (200) and a top plate (202) positioned on and inclined with respect to the base plate (200). The top plate (202) can include a first end (204) to receive an infeed having articles (214) in a first predefined orientation and a second end (206), opposite to the first end (204), to provide an outfeed having the articles (214) aligned in a second predefined orientation. In addition, the top plate (202) can be provided with a plurality of vanes (208) on a side of the top plate (202) opposite to a side facing the base plate (200). The plurality of vanes (208) can align the plurality of articles (214) in the first predefined orientation from the infeed direction to the second predefined orientation in the outfeed.

Specification

CLIAMS:1. A conveyor tray (106) for a packaging machine (100), the conveyor tray (106) comprising:
a base plate (200); and
a top plate (202) positioned on the base plate (200), wherein a plane of the top plate (202) is inclined with respect to the base plate (200), the top plate (202) comprising,
a first end (204) to receive an infeed comprising a plurality of articles (214) in a first predefined orientation, wherein a central orientation axis of each of the plurality of articles (214) is substantially parallel to the top plate (202) in the first predefined orientation, the central orientation axis being indicative of a direction of orientation of the plurality of articles (214) to be achieved;
a second end (206) opposite to the first end (204) to provide an outfeed comprising the plurality of articles (214) aligned in a second predefined orientation, wherein the central orientation axis of each of the plurality of articles (214) is substantially perpendicular to the top plate (202) in the second predefined orientation; and
a plurality of vanes (208) provided on a side of the top plate (202) opposite to a side facing the base plate (200), each of the plurality of vanes (208) longitudinally extending substantially from the first end (204) to the second end (206), wherein a distance between adjacent vanes (208) progressively decreases from the first end (204) to the second end (206), wherein the plurality of vanes (208) are to align the plurality of articles (214) in the first predefined orientation from the infeed direction to the second predefined orientation in the outfeed.
2. The conveyor tray (106) as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of vanes (208) comprise a collating portion (212) in proximity of the second end (206), the collating portion (212) of each of the plurality of vanes (208) being substantially parallel to collating portions (212) of the adjacent vanes (208).
3. The conveyor tray (106) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a height of each of the plurality of vanes (208) progressively increases from the first end (204) to the second end (206).
4. The conveyor tray (106) as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a platform (218) provided at the first end (204) of the top plate (202) to receive the infeed.
5. The conveyor tray (106) as claimed in claim 1, further comprising at least one wedge portion (216) for supporting the first end (204) to incline the top plate (202) with respect to the base plate (200).
6. A packaging machine (100) comprising:
a dispensing unit (102) to dispense a plurality of articles (214) to be packaged;
a conveyor tray (106) to receive the plurality of articles (214) from the dispensing unit (102) and, the conveyor tray (106) comprising,
a base plate (200);
a top plate (202) positioned on the base plate (200), wherein a plane of the top plate (202) is inclined with respect to the base plate (200), the top plate (202) comprising,
a first end (204) to receive an infeed comprising the plurality of articles (214) in a first predefined orientation, wherein a central orientation axis of each of the plurality of articles (214) is substantially parallel to the top plate (202) in the first predefined orientation, the central orientation axis being indicative of a direction of orientation of the plurality of articles (214) to be achieved;
