Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a padlock and more particularly, to a padlock arrangement for a barrel lock.
Background of the invention
Generally, a customer demands padlocking arrangement for barrel locks for safety purposes. Some manufacturers of the barrel lock achieve padlocking by changing a key insert of the barrel lock with a new component. In this component, a slot for inserting a physical lock is given in which one lock can be accommodated. However, there is a limitation of space with respect to the additional components needed for achieving padlocking.
In current technologies, however, there is no provision for accommodating three physical locks in the padlock. Also, if at all one wants to accommodate three locks, the component in which physical locks need to be accommodated becomes bulky. Sometimes, the space constraints cannot allow this component to be bulky. Also, the key insert need to be changed if padlocking is to be achieved.
Accordingly, there exists a need to provide a padlock arrangement for a barrel lock that overcomes the above mentioned drawbacks of the prior art.
Objects of the invention
An object of the present invention is to provide a compact padlock arrangement for a barrel lock without affecting an assembly of the barrel lock.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an adaptable padlock arrangement that is capable of assembled even at site whenever needed.

Detailed description of the invention
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.
The present invention provides a padlock arrangement for a barrel lock. The padlock arrangement is easily adaptable with the barrel lock without affecting an overall assembly of the barrel lock. The padlock arrangement facilitates assembling of three physical locks of different sizes at a time wherein a diameter of the lock varies in a specific range.
The present invention is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings, throughout which reference numbers indicate corresponding parts in the various figures. These reference numbers are shown in bracket in the following description.
Referring to figures 1-10, a padlock arrangement (100) for a barrel lock (not shown) in accordance with the present invention is shown. The barrel lock comprises a housing (not shown), a main lock (not shown), an extension rod (not shown), a catcher (not shown) and a guide (not shown).
The padlock arrangement (100) comprises a base (20), a cover (40), a plurality of rivets (60) and a spring (80). The base (20) is mounted on the housing of the barrel lock. The base (20) comprises a pair of oblong slots (4), a first hole (8) and a projection (12). The pair of oblong slots (4) is configured on both sides (not numbered) of the base (20) and acts as a guide for movement of the cover (40). The first hole (8) facilitates holding of the spring (80) in a required position. The projection (12) includes at least three slots (10) configured thereon for accommodation of physical locks (not numbered). In an embodiment, the at least three slots (10) facilitates a provision of accommodating 3 physical locks at a time.
The cover (40) is fixed to the base (20) using the plurality of rivets (60). The cover (40) is capable of allowing and blocking an access for insertion of a key (not shown) of the barrel lock. The cover (40) includes a second hole (24), a third hole (28), a slot (32) and a pair of holes (36). The second hole (24) is configured at a front side (not numbered) of the cover (40) for blocking/allowing the access of the key of the barrel lock when the cover (40) is moving up in a vertical direction. The slot (32) is configured at a bottom surface (not numbered) of the cover (40). The slot (32) gets inserted in the projection (12) of the base (20). The third hole (28) is configured on the bottom surface of the cover (40).
Again, one rivet of the plurality of rivets (60) is inserted into the third hole (28) of the cover (40) and holds the spring (80) at one end thereof such that the spring (80) is assembled in between the base (20) and the cover (40) of the padlock arrangement (100). The spring (80) allows the cover (40) to remain in position thereof. The plurality of rivets (60) acts as a pin and slides in the pair of oblong slots (4) configured on both sides of the base (20) for the movement of the cover (40).
Again referring to figures 1-10, for assembling the padlock arrangement (100) on the barrel lock, firstly a subassembly (not numbered) of the base (20) and the cover (40) is formed. For making the subassembly, one rivet (not numbered) of the plurality of rivets (60) is fixed/ welded on the bottom side of the cover (40) as shown in figure 5. Then, the slot (32) of the cover (40) is inserted into the projection (12) of the base (20) as shown in figure 6. In next step, two rivets (not numbered) of the plurality of rivets (60) are inserted as indicated by arrows into the pair of the holes (36) to hold the base (20) and the cover (40) together as shown in figure 7. Once the plurality of rivets (60) is fixed, the cover (40) cannot be separated from the base (20).
Now the subassembly is assembled with a base (not shown) of the barrel lock. The base (20) of the padlock arrangement (100) includes two horizontal strips (not shown) configured thereon and are adapted to get inserted in the base of the barrel lock as shown in figure 8.
Then, the spring (80) is inserted between a gap of the base (20) and the cover (40) such that one end of the spring (80) is held on the rivet inserted into the third hole (28) of the cover (40) and another end of the spring (80) gets inserted in a hole (not shown) of the base of the barrel lock. In this condition, the padlock arrangement (100) is in open condition such that the key slot of the barrel lock is accessible as shown in figure 9.
When the cover (40) is moved up in the vertical direction, the spring (80) gets compressed as shown in figure 10. In this position, the key slot of the barrel lock is not accessible and the at least three slots (10) on the projection (12) of the base (20) become visible thereby allowing the physical locks to be inserted therein. Once the physical locks are assembled, the cover (40) fails to move in a downward direction thereby achieving padlocking.
Advantages of the invention
1. The padlock arrangement (100) facilitates assembling of 3 physical locks of different sizes at a time wherein a diameter of the lock varies in a specific range.
2. The padlock arrangement (100) being a separate entity is accommodated with the barrel lock whenever needed. Thus, the barrel lock as such remains intact.
3. The padlock arrangement (100) is easily adaptable with the barrel lock without affecting an overall assembly of the barrel lock.
