Abstract: PANORAMIC VIEW AND BLIND SPOT ELIMINATION SYSTEM A panoramic view system to eliminate blind spots on the road while driving. It is in-vehicle, vision-based electronic system for automobiles. It utilizes at least three cameras installed on the left side, right side and the rear side of the vehicle to take the left, right and rear view of the road. The real time image processing means extracts the desired image from the acquired image and process the panoramic view of the image. The display device installed in front of the driver displays the panoramic view of the image on the screen
PANORAMIC VIEW AND BLIND SPOT ELIMINATION SYSTEM
Field of the Disclosure
The present disclosure describes a panoramic view system to eliminate blind spots on the road while driving.
Background of the Disclosure
A blind spot is a region of the road that cannot be seen through the forward mirror, the rear view mirror or the side mirrors while driving. There are various mechanisms to eliminate the blind spots such as by overlapping side and rear view mirrors, by turning one's head briefly or by adding another mirror with a larger field of view. But various distortions have been observed in the images captured by such mechanisms. This also requires mental alertness of the driver to interpret such informations. So, all this will even worsen the blind spot elimination and would become a hazard while attempting to provide a safety mechanism.
The following prior arts have failed to provide a viable solution to the blind spot elimination with convex and concave mirrors such as |US 3337285, US 3389952, US 4306770, US 4331382, EP 435792A and EP 5793542.
Hence, there exist a need to create a system that uses better sensors or some other device and mechanism to eliminate the blind spots.
Summary of the Disclosure
The present disclosure describes a panoramic view system to eliminate blind spots on the road while driving. It is in-vehicle, vision-based electronic system for automobiles. It utilizes at least three cameras installed on the left side, right side and the rear side of the vehicle to take the left, right and rear view of the road. The real time image processing means extracts the desired
image from the acquired image and process the panoramic view of the image. The display device installed in front of the driver displays the panoramic view of the image on the screen
Brief Description of the Drawings
The present disclosure explains the various embodiments of the instant disclosure with reference to the accompanying drawings present in the following description:
FIGURE 1 illustrates a block diagram showing the schematic construction of the Panoramic View and blind spot elimination System according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
FIGURE 2 illustrates a block diagram showing the Panoramic View blind spot elimination process according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
Detailed Description of the Disclosure
The embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present disclosure is not limited to the embodiments and the embodiments described herein in the art of the present disclosure. The disclosure is described with reference to specific circuits, block diagrams, signals, etc. simply to provide a more thorough understanding of the disclosure. The detailed description of the disclosure is as follows:
Figure 1 illustrates a block diagram of a Panoramic View blind spot elimination system. At least three cameras 101 are installed on the left side, right side and the rear side of the vehicle to take the left, right and rear view of the road. The real time image processing system 102 extracts the desired image from the acquired three images and mosaics into one 180° panoramic view of the image. The display device 103 installed in front of the driver displays the 180° panoramic view of the image.
Further, the real time image processing means consists of a data collection block 104 and an image mosaicing block 105.
Figure 2 illustrates a block diagram showing the image extraction, image filtering process. As illustrated in figure 1 the panoramic view system consist at least three cameras 101 which capture the images of the road from left, right and rear side of the vehicle. Before the camera is set to capture the images it is calibrated off line i.e. when the system is not operational. The calibration of the camera is done on the parameters such as the Imaging Sensor size, Lens focal length, Camera mount angle, Angle with respect to established forward reference, Camera angle with respect to established horizon and Camera location in the global coordinate system.
Further, the camera is connected to the real time image processing means 102. The three input images are first subjected to extraction of images in specific frame sizes. After that, in step 202 the depth correction of the three images is done at two stages, first of which is the calibration stage 201. The cameras are calibrated in such a fashion that the view thus obtained is coming with their depths corrected. Further the fine tuning is done algorithmically.
In step 203, base correction of the three images is done because the rear side camera is placed at a different position. Therefore, base correction is required to make base of all three imges at the same level. Firstly, the overlapping regions of the three images are calculated. Secondly, the perspective correction is applied to all the three images. Finally, a common base is calculated from a row where all the three images have a same base.
After correction of depth and bases of all the three images, in step 204 all the three images are stitched/mosaiced together to form a single image. This is obtained after filtering the overlapped region of the images. The output signal of the real-time image processor 102 allows the display means 103 to display the 180° panoramic view of the image on the screen installed in front of the driver.
The Panoramic View blind spot elimination System described in the present disclosure is applicable to in all personal/commercial vehicles (car, truck, passenger transport, heavy trucks etc.)
Although the disclosure of the instant disclosure has been described in connection with the embodiment of the present disclosure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it is not limited thereto. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various substitutions, modifications and changes may be made thereto without departing from the scope and spirit of the disclosure.
