Specification

Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a broad field of blister packaging. More particularly the present disclosure relates to paper based sustainable blister packaging.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Sustainable development is a global objective that targets the societal challenge of climate action, the environment and resource efficiency. An important strategy is the promotion of sustainable packaging, that is, the use of sustainable materials and designs for the packaging of goods. Sustainable packaging—also known as ‘green packaging’, ‘eco-friendly packaging’ or ‘recyclable packaging’, uses ecological materials for packaging purposes, while always bearing in mind that products must be effective and safe for human health and the environment. Pharmaceutical packaging is one market across the globe which is advancing at constant pace. Advancement in research of pharmaceuticals development had always being dependent on the packaging technology. Maintaining integrity of pharmaceuticals during storage, shipment, and delivery is assured by quality of packaging available.
[0003] Role of pharmaceutical packaging is to provide lifesaving drugs, surgical devices, blood and blood products, nutraceuticals, powders, poultices, liquid and dosage forms, solid and semisolid dosage forms. Packaging of pharmaceuticals essentially provides containment, drug safety, identity, convenience of handling and delivery. Pharmaceutical packaging has to balance lots of complex considerations. Leaving behind relatively simple issues such as developing good designs and communicating with customers, pharmaceutical packagers are concerned to more pressing concerns which include fighting with counterfeiting, providing moisture resistance, encouraging patient compliance, ensuring drug integrity and balancing child-resistance and accessibility for the elderly. Issue of environment safety is also key concern for both developed and developing countries packaging industry.
[0004] Plastics are widely used for packaging as it shows superior properties like of non-permeability, inert to environment, durability, lightness, stability and availability. These properties of plastic also make them last in the environment forever and accumulate as solid waste, if not recycled properly. Plastic packaging is becoming increasingly recognized for its damaging environmental qualities. Plastic can take thousands of years to biodegrade, so single-use plastic packaging like pharmaceutical packaging is highly polluting. Even plastic packaging that claims to be recyclable often ends up in landfill – especially with recycling capabilities varying from industry to industry.
[0005] Therefore, there is felt a need for a novel paper based sustainable blister packaging which can at least reduce the usage of non- sustainable blister packaging.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0006] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a novel paper based sustainable blister packaging.
[0007] It is a further object of the present disclosure to provide novel paper based sustainable blister packaging having excellent strength and barrier properties suitable for blister packaging.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION`
[0008] Accordingly, in a general aspect the present disclosure provides a paper based sustainable blister packaging.
[0009] In an aspect the present disclosure provides a paper based blister packaging material. The paper based blister packaging material comprises a first layer of paper having thickness in the range of 50 GSM to 200 GSM coated with at least one barrier coating material on one side of the paper and a heat sealing material on another side of the paper. Typically, the barrier coating material is selected from the group of compostable Polyethylene (PE), cellulose based paper and nano clay based barrier coating. The heat sealing material is selected from the group of cellulose and vinyl acrylate based lacquer.
[0010] In another aspect of the present invention, disclosed is a paper based blister. The paper based blister comprises a thermoformed paper based blister packaging material with a plurality of recess formed therein for receiving a product comprising at least three layers and a flat lid comprising at least two layers, an outer 50 GSM paper and a heat sealing material. Typically, the at least three layers comprise a paper having thickness in the range of 50 GSM to 200 GSM coated with at least one barrier coating material on one side of the paper and a heat sealing material on another side of the paper. The thermoformed paper based blister packaging material and the flat lid are heat-sealed together.
[0011] Various objects, features, aspects and advantages of the inventive subject matter will become more apparent from the following detailed description of preferred embodiments.
