Paper & Currency Counting Using Linear Encoder Measurement

Abstract: THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO COUNTING PAPER / CURRENCY USING THEIR LINEARLY ENCODED COMBINED THICKNESS MEASUREMENT. THIS METHOD CONTAINS A VERTICAL STRIP COATED WITH RESISTIVE MATERIAL AND A MOTOR OPERATED HORIZONTAL BAR WHICH MOVES ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE VERTICAL STRIP MAKES A CONTACT WITH THE VERTICAL STRIP AT HEIGHT EQUAL TO THE THICKNESS OF THE PAPER / CURRENCY. THE COMBINED RESISTANCE FROM THE BASE OR REFERENCE POINT TO THE POINT OF CONTACT IS MEASURED AND IS CONVERTED TO VOLTAGE WHICH IS THEN DIGITIZED USING AN ADC. THIS DIGITIZED VALUE IS DIVIDED BY PER SHEET VOLTAGE MEASUREMENT TO GET THE TOTAL BUNDLE COUNT AND IS DISPLAYED.

Complete specification:

Summary:

In the summary of invention, each important salient feature is explained as follows:

1. In this method of invention, cleanly arranged bundle of notes are placed under a vertical strip connected with touch sensor.

2. The sensor end is placed over vertically movable system which is equipped with linear encoder arrangement.

3. The method applies to vertical displacement analysis to count the number of notes or papers.

4. This method contains a vertical strip coated with resistive material and a motor operated horizontal bar which moves along the length of the vertical strip.

5. It makes a contact with the vertical strip at height equal to the thickness of the paper / currency.

6. The number of currency notes and papers data will be calculated with microprocessor enabled program and later converted to digital data display.

7. The instrument developed will use multiple varieties of electronic sensors with defined operations and their collective data will be analyzed with central proceessor chip.

4. Description

The present method of proposed invention is related to development of a mechanical device which can count bundles of papers or bundles or currency notes which can be counted with mechanical appliances and that data conversion into electronic signals which can be numerically displayed.

In this method a vertical strip arranged over a movable stand fixed to a timer belt is arranged. This belt will be rotated over a pulley to give y-axis movement to the device whose end is arranged with a touch electronic sensor that can transmit data in electronic form. When the touch sensor movement is varied in upward or downward direction, the linear displacement will be measured with linear encoding sensor. This will calculate the length of displacement in terms of multiple divisions whose specification is fed to the measuring sensor. Depending on the size of uniform thickness of notes or papers, the multiple divisions of same thickness will be converted into mathematical data to give the number the notes or papers present in the bundle. The Combined resistance from the base or reference point to the point of contact is measured and is converted to voltage which is then digitized using an ADC. This digitized value is divided by per sheet voltage measurement to get the total bundle count and is displayed.

Background of invention

Currency counting and bundling are essential requirements of currency transactions. Paper counting and bundling are likewise important in paper and printing industry. Though there are some machines available in the market which operate by individually counting the number of notes present in each bundle with certain accuracy. These methods are time consuming, error prone due to technical insufficiencies and external factors influencing the physical status of the notes. There is an acute need of a fool proof method to overcome existing drawbacks in counting.

6. Claims

1. We claim that the present principle is a novel concept which gives linear displacement of the sensor to encode the number of currency notes counted.

2. We claim that in this method any number of currency notes can be counted present in the bundle.

3. We claim that this method of invention can be used to count papers present in the bundles in printing, paper making and book binding industries.

4. We claim that this method can be used in counting the metal laminations that are used in making transformers.
