Abstract: A parking brake system for a vehicle is described. The present invention provides a side stand; a brake cam lever for execution of braking action through brake cam; a auxiliary brake cable having inner cable and outer sleeve, connected to the side stand and the brake cam lever; atleast two abutments for abutting the outer sleeve ends of the brake cable; wherein the side stand when applied pulls the auxiliary brake cable inner thereby applying the brake.
Parking Brake System Field of the Invention:
This invention relates to parking brake system and more particularly for a scooter type vehicle.
Background of the Invention:
Typically parking brake is used on ungeared vehicles to prevent rolling of the vehicle in slope when parked with side stand. This is achieved by an additional lever provided in the handle which will lock the rear brake hand lever. In this feature manual intervention is required to lock the hand lever. In the unlikely event of any situation when the rider forgets to lock the brake lever after the vehicle is put on side stand in slope, there is likelihood of the vehicle rolling causing extensive damage to the vehicle.. Therefore the present invention tries to overcome the existing problem associated with the existing provision and provide that enhances operability and usable on a scooter type motorcycle.
Summary of the Invention:
An object of the present invention is to provide a parking brake system which is actuated by operation of side stand
Another object of the present invention is to ensure the safe locking of the rear wheel.in a parked condition especially on slope..
Another object of the present invention is to prevent extensive damage to vehicle in the likely event of rolling down.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way * of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
Figure 1 illustrates a conventional scooter.
Figure 2 illustrates parking brake arrangement of a vehicle in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject matter.
Figure 3 illustrates parking brake arrangement of a vehicle in side stand OFF condition in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject • matter.
Detail Description of the Drawings:
The present invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with different embodiments. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather those embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.
With reference to Figure 1, , a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a leg shield made of resin or metal, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.
The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider's seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.
A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.
The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the "vehicle.
With reference to Figure 2, a parking brake arrangement 200 for a scooter vehicle comprises: a side stand 201; a brake cam lever 202 for execution of braking action through brake cam 203; an auxiliary brake cable 204 having inner cable 204 a and outer sleeve 204 b, connected to the side • stand 201 at one end and the brake cam lever-202 at the other end; at least two abutments 205 for abutting the outer sleeve 204b ends of the brake cable 204; wherein the side stand 201 when applied pulls the auxiliary brake cable inner 204a thereby applying the brake. Alternatively instead of auxiliary brake cable, brake rod or combination of brake rod and brake cable can be used. Figure 3 shows the state when the side stand is in OFF stand condition, the said brake cam lever is not pulled in this state. So in this kind of arrangement when the rider forgets to lock the brake lever, but the vehicle is in side stand, the vehicle will not roll back.
Although embodiments for parking brake system have been described in the language specific to structural features, it is to be understood that the invention is not necessarily limited to the specific features described.
Rather such variations in features are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
