Performance Tracking Method And System

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method of performance tracking that enables a user to review a list of activities based on a desired category of interest and record which of the activities have been achieved by the user, which become the user"s achievements. The system can then calculate a user"s respective score related to the user"s achievements and in comparison to other users’ achievements as well. The system will determine achievement levels based on the scores and will allow the user to compare their scores to other users of the system.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to performance tracking of users. More particularly, it relates to a system and implementing a method that can receive and store achievements among users and compute relative rankings among the users based on their respective accomplishments.
BACKGROUND
[002] Individuals have tracked their progress against list of activities and goals mentally and on paper for many years. Businesses and individuals have compiled lists of activities to allow individuals to view the entire list of activities related to a category or a ranked list of activities for a category. The Internet has provided means for lists to be published, reviewed and maintained by multiple individuals all over the globe.
[003] However, what is needed is a system or method for allowing individuals to record their accomplishments against an activity list within multiple categories and for the system to calculate achievement levels for the user's accomplishments and identify achievement thresholds for the purpose of recognizing the user's achievements. What is also needed is a way an individual to compare their accomplishments against other users or predefined accomplishment lists.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[004] It is an aspect of the present invention to provide an improved way to promote and compare a user's achievements among other users and thus enable tracking of a user's performance.
[005] The above aspects can also be obtained by a method that includes (a) receiving and storing in a database users and each respective user's respective achievements; (b) determining a number of completed achievements for a particular user; (c) computing a score for the particular user based on the number of completed achievements; (d) calculating a rank of the particular user against other users using the score for the particular user and respective scores for the other users; and (e) promoting the rank of the user on the profile page of the user.
[006] The above aspects can also be obtained by method that includes (a) receiving and storing users and each respective user's respective achievements; (b) computing a rank for a particular user based on the particular user's achievements compared with other users' respective achievements; (c) allocating an achievement level to the user; and (d) promoting the user’s achievement level.
[007] The above aspects can also be obtained by an apparatus that includes (a) an interface to receiving and store in a database users and each respective user's respective achievements; (b) a processing unit to perform: determining a number of completed achievements for a particular user; computing a score for the particular user based on the number of completed achievements; calculating a rank of the particular user against other users using the score for the particular user and respective scores for the other users; and (c) defining and allocating an achievement level to the user based on the score and rank of the user; and (d) promoting the rank of the user on user profile.
[008] A user benefits from the disclosed method of performance tracking by getting recognition from hiring companies and potential employers. Also, prospective clients and customers of a professional would be able to make an informed choice when selecting a professional for their work since they would be able to assess an individual's work on the basis of his/her achievement level, score and ranking. Disclosed system and method also present the opportunity to the users gain recognition for his/her talent on the basis of their performance.
BENEFITS OF THE INVENTION
[009] The present invention enables other users of the system, including prospective employers, to view a user profile and make an opinion, among other things, on:
a. The level of knowledge of the user;
b. The academic, theoretical and practical aspects of the user’s knowledge;
c. The strong and weak points of the user’s technical or professional know how;
d. Learning skills of the user; and
e. Skills of the user in connection with working in a team.
[0010] Presently, employers usually refer to the past work experience of an employee candidate along with a short face to face interview. The employer is not able to gauge the practical or technical aspect of the person to a large extent. This means that both the employer and employee are a disadvantage since the right skills of the person may not come into forefront. The present system gives the opportunity to prevent such a situation from occurring.

[0012] FIG. 1 is a step wise flowchart diagram illustrating an overall system flow of method adopted for tracking achievements of users in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.
DESCRIPTION
[0013] The invention is described below with reference to several embodiments and examples. Such discussion is for purposes of illustration only. Modifications to examples within the spirit and scope of the present invention, will be readily apparent to one of skilled in the art. Terminology used throughout the specification herein is given its ordinary meaning as supplemented by the discussion immediately below. As used in the specification, the singular forms “a”, “an” and “the” include plural references unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
[0014] The present inventive concept relates to a system and method that enables a user to review a list of activities based on a desired category of interest and record which of the activities have been achieved by the user, which become the user's achievements. The system can then calculate a user's respective score related to the user's achievements and in comparison to other users’ achievements as well. The system will determine achievement levels based on the scores and will allow the user to compare their scores to other users of the system.
[0015] Another aspect of the method of the present invention is to allow the user to submit their activities for review to the system moderator. The added activity of the user may be placed in a pending state for a system moderator to review and approve. After the content has been approved by the system moderator, next stage of process will be reached when the activity of the user will be displayed to other users. On such approved activity the user is accorded a score and on comparison of user’s score with other users a rank is computed by the system. User’s achievement level and rank is then displayed on the user’s profile to promote him for his achievements.
[0016] A user interface organizes information into a consistent presentation of menu selections and categorically organized information. Furthermore, at specified levels of the categorical organized information, the user is presented with the option of accessing a list of activities related to that category, wherein the activities are defined by the users of the system, for example, a student user could select the number of tutorials he has completed. The user interacts with the activities in the list by adding their personal achievements related to the activity. The user interacts with a web browser by choosing among menu selections using standard point-and-click techniques. The user is presented with the option to view their achievement levels, which causes the system to execute its calculations and algorithms to determine the user’s score and achievement levels.
[0017] In an embodiment of the present invention, the activities of the user to be tracked for achievements could include, a query asked, a reply received and a comment received. For each of such activities, the users will have the option to upvote or down vote the activity based on which points are earned by a user. If a user has been receiving more down votes than upvotes for his / her queries, replies or comments then the user will be earning lesser points and therefore the rank of such a user will go down. Achievement of each user will be calculated on the basis of points earned on the activities.
[0018] The system can comprise of a computer network wherein a plurality of computers has access to the computer network and a computer server running in the computer network. The system can be configured to receive requests from any one of the plurality of computers. The system comprises a database of information which can be, in an embodiment, organized by activity category and user's achievements. The information corresponding to each one of the categories has its own specific attributes for the activities and achievements allowing for the information to be category specific.
[0019] The system can further comprise an achievement calculation engine in communication with the database. The achievement calculation engine is configured to tabulate a user's accomplishments against the list of activities and further perform comparison calculations to determine the user's achievement level. The system is also configured to determine the user attainment of predefined achievement levels and rankings relative to other users of the system.
[0020] Further, the user can win rewards or incentives based on the user's achievement level and/or rank. The rewards / incentive can be sponsored by organizations and prospective employers looking for talent.
[0021] A system administrator can initialize the system and set all of the general categories, particular categories, activities, users, and any other field or information that the system can store/use.
[0022] The disclosed system and methods can be implemented in a plurality of scenarios and situations such as in the field of education, profession, industry etc.
[0023] Computer instructions may be implemented in a number of ways to effectuate the methods described herein, wherein the actual structure of the hardware and software used is not critical to the implementation of embodiments.
[0024] Having thus described a few particular embodiments of the invention, various alterations, modifications, and improvements will readily occur to those skilled in the art. Such alteration, modifications, and improvements as are made obvious by this disclosure are intended to be part of this description though not expressly stated herein, and are intended to be within the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the foregoing description is by way of example only, and not limiting.

CLAIMS:
1. A method of performance tracking, comprising the steps of:
a. receiving and storing in a database users and each respective user's respective achievements;
b. determining a number of completed achievements for a particular user;
c. computing a score for the particular user based on the number of completed achievements;
d. calculating a rank of the particular user against other users using the score for the particular user and respective scores for the other users; and
e. promoting the rank of the user on the profile page of the user.
2. The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising the steps of:
a. submitting of activities by the user to the system moderator for review;
b. approving of activity by the system moderator; and
c. displaying of the activity to other users of the system following which the users can send their achievements for storing in the system.
3. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the user interacts with the activities presented in a category by adding their personal achievements related to the activity.
4. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein rewards or incentives are offered to users based on level of achievement of the users.
5. A method of performance tracking comprising the steps of:
a. receiving and storing users and each respective user's respective achievements;
b. computing a rank for a particular user based on the particular user's achievements compared with other users' respective achievements;
c. allocating an achievement level to the user; and
d. promoting the user’s achievement level.
6. A system of performance tracking comprising the steps of:
a. an interface to receiving and store in a database users and each respective user's respective achievements;
b. a processing unit to perform: determining a number of completed achievements for a particular user; computing a score for the particular user based on the number of completed achievements; calculating a rank of the particular user against other users using the score for the particular user and respective scores for the other users; and
c. defining and allocating an achievement level to the user based on the score and rank of the user; and
d. promoting the rank of the user on user profile.
