This is a dental instrument which can be used during periodontal surgeries.
As the name says periodontal flap elevator, it reflects the flap during flap surgery.
Background of the Invention :
Now a days people are more prone to dental problems,more severly for chronic periodontits.This invention is made to ease the periodontal surgeries. Earlier we use different types of periosteal elevators to reflect full thickness flap, they have a disadvantage of not properly reflecting flap,they only reflects one side of flap during insertion of instrument and there is always need of second operator to adjust and hold the periosteal elevator,but our invention reflects both side of flap at one time and we can use our invention without the help of second operator and gain proper access to underlying bone defects.
Summary :
We have innovated a periodontal flap elevator that reflects the flap by adjustable mechanism having a tightening screw on head of instrument and two blades on other side. This design ensure that flap will elevate during surgery and provide proper access to underlying soft and hard tissue or underlying bone defects without the help of second operator. Previously, we have been using periosteal elevator manually
With manual periosteal elevator, there will always a need of second operator to elevate the flap, there is inconvenience to elevate the flap of both sides or injured the underlying structures.
Our periodontal flap elevator provides proper visibility of underlying bone defects, so we can easily debride the granulation tissue around the tooth and can take post operative photographs of underlying defects without the help of second operator.

Figure 1 shows the dental instrument 1 having head. Rotating screw is pointed with 2. The middle portion 3 of the instrument connects both outer arms 4 and inner adjustable arms 6. The end portion 7 comprises two angulated arms with blades on both sides 8.
Figure 2 shows the dental instrument 1 inactive form and 2 active form showing elevation of both the ends by tightening the screw.

1. The Periodontal flap elevator reflects the flap during periodontal flap surgery.
2. Periodontal flap elevator reduces the assistant's work during surgical procedure.
3. The periodontal flap elevator of claim 1, wherein said periodontal flap elevation includes flat blades which encapsulate the flap on both sides and elevates it by tighteting the screw.
4. The periodontal flap elevator of claim 1, wherein said periodontal flap elevation includes proper accessibility and visibility of surgical site in comparison with conventional periosteal elevator.
5. The periodontal flap elevator of claim 2 , wherein said periodontal flap elevation includes visibility of proper architecture of underlying bone with any defetcs.
6. The periodontal flap elevator of claim 5 , wherein said periodontal flap elevation includes proper debridement and preoperative photographs of surgical field.
