Specification

Title of the Invention: Phantom Head

Field of the Invention: The present invention relates to phantom head for dental purposes and more particularly to a Phantom head and a Jaw model.

Background of the Invention:

A denture skull of this type has become known from the brochure "Frasaco", issued by Franz Sachs & Co. GmbH Kunststoffverarbeitung, pages 17 through 19. In this known denture-skull, the latching device consists of a solid locking clamp, which possesses such a width that the rear opening of the denture-skull is blocked thereby. This has the consequence that any work which is carried out on the teeth by the practicing person cannot be observed from the back and commented upon by an expert. The specification of German Patent No. 28 33 835, the denture-skulls, the articulated balls are freely rotatable within the articulating box, so that it is not possible to fixedly orient the two jaw models in a correct position relative to each other, which would be desirable for certain types of work carried out by the practicing person. The present invention, as is described in more extensive detail herein, has as an object the provision of an artificial denture-skull of the above-mentioned type, in which the two jaw models can, in a simple manner, be correctly fixed in position with respect to each other, for example, in the normal basic jaw position.

The invention, as described in detail herein below, has as an object the provision of an artificial denture-skull of the above-mentioned type, in which there is afforded an attachment means that provide flexible movement of the Jaw Model with respect to the phantom head.

The advantages which are achieved through the intermediary of the present invention can be essentially ascertained in that, through the construction of the attachment device in the form of two magnets, and due to the positioning of the magnets in the articulating jaw model that can releasable be fixed to the phantom head that provide denture aperture towards the teeth of the jaw models remains open and unobstructed.

summary of the Invention:

The present invention relates to an artificial denture- skull for dental teaching purposes, more particularly to a phantom head and a jaw model. The said phantom head further comprises of an upper head component, a lower head component and a joint component. The said upper head component further comprises of a head component and a head base component. The said lower head component comprises of a mandibular component, a mandibular holder, mandibular guide pins, phantom head articulator, space for jaw articulator, and attachment means for the phantom head articulator such as a magnetic component and the said jaw model. The joint component comprises of ball joints which provide up to 360 degrees of articulation for the phantom head.

The said jaw model comprises of jaw model base and removable, and/or affix-able teeth. The jaw model base further comprises of magnetic plates and screw cover cap. The removable Jaw model is positioned in to the said lower head component with the guide pins and magnetic component in the lower head component and magnetic plates in the jaw model. The present invention advantageously provides more stability to the affixed jaw model in the phantom head and aids in better working model for dental trainings. The said phantom head and jaw model provides ease of positioning and removing during handling of the phantom head. The joint component provides up to 360 degree of articulation that provides all angles of positioning the phantom head when affixed to the dental chair, working table, movable trolley or the like.

Detailed Description of the invention:

The present invention relates to an artificial Denture Skull for Dental teaching, practice and related purposes, comprising of a phantom head and a jaw model. The Phantom head is attached to the said Jaw Model with attachment means such as magnets to position and enhance ease of operations during handling of the dental head and Jaw model.

The said phantom head comprises of an upper head component, a lower head component and a joint component.

The said upper head component further comprises of a head component and a head base component. The head component and the head base component are connected via one or more connecting means such as hinge, screws or the like. Additionally the head and the head base component are connected with one or more means such as lift cords, strings, pulleys, springs or the like. The connecting components provide a means to position the head in an angle from zero degrees to ninety degrees (0°-90°) and from zero degrees to one hundred and eighty degrees (0°-180°) with the head base component. The head component further comprises of one or more metal plates. The head base component comprises of a phantom head articulator holder, jaw model releaser, magnetic holder, guide pin holder, joint component and moulded ears.

The said lower head component further comprises of a mandibular component, a mandibular holder, mandibular guide pins, phantom head articulator, space for jaw articulator, and attachment means for the phantom head articulator and the jaw model. The lower head component is attached to the head base of the upper head component with connecting means like screws or the like.

The mandibular component is connected to the lower jaw of the jaw model through mandibular guide pins. The upper jaw of the jaw model is positioned into the space for the jaw articulator and is fixed to the head base of the upper head component through guide pins.

The said attachment means for the phantom head articulator and the jaw model comprises of magnets on both the upper jaw of the articulator and the lower mandibular holder. The said jaw model is positioned to the provided space and is affixed to the upper and lower jaws of the articulator by means of magnets, screws and the like.

The said joint component comprises of a base clamp, phantom head rod, 360° ball joints, and ball joint tightening handles and a joint holder. The phantom head rod connects the upper and the lower head components through the joint holder and is connected to the base clamp with a 360° ball joint to facilitate attachment to a dental chair working table, movable trolley or the like. The ball joints provide 0°-360° rotation at the base clamp and for the phantom head.

The said jaw model comprises of jaw model base and removable and affix-able teeth. The jaw model base further comprises of guide pin holes for lower and upper jaws, magnetic plates, cover for screw chamber, provision for screw type articulator and space to position into the lower head chamber.

The present invention additionally comprises of rubber sheet mask that can be affixed to provide a complete phantom head practise model. The rubber sheet mask is a mask that has provision for water drain which allows and stops water draining during the working of the present invention. The cheek sheet is a mask that is used while practicising on the said artificial teeth without water during the working of the present invention. The said rubber sheet mask is attached the phantom head with attachment means such as screws or the like

The said jaw model of the present invention further comprises of removable teeth components that can be replaced. The teeth components on the upper jaw model and on the lower jaw model are identified by reference numerals.

The phantom head and jaw model of the present invention can be practiced with or without any of the accompanying parts provided in this specification.
