Pitch Range For A Variable Pitch Fan

Abstract: A variable pitch fan for a propulsion device is provided. The variable pitch fan includes a plurality of fan blades (40) coupled to a disk (42) and a rotatable front hub (52) covering the disk. Each fan blade (40) is rotatable about a pitch axis (P) to vary a pitch of the fan blade (40). The pitch is variable within a pitch range that is at least about 80° to about 130°. Each fan blade (40) extends radially outward from the disk (42) along a span (S) from a root (102) to a tip (104). A portion of the span (S) adjacent the root (102) defines a root span region (SR), a portion of the span (S) adjacent the tip (104) defines a tip span region (ST). A solidity of the variable pitch fan is at least 1.0 in the root span region (SR). Fig.1
