Abstract: The present invention relates to a pivoted assembly, the pivoted assembly comprising a post with a longitudinally extending first section and a second section coupled to a body with the support of pins to form a pivoted assembly unit; a base assembly and a rotating assembly , base assembly comprises a first plate for connecting pivoted assembly to a foundation and rotating assembly comprises a second plate for connecting pivoted assembly to a base; and a bearing unit associated between said first plate connected to pole foundation and a second plate connected to second plate of the traffic pole.
Field of Invention
The present invention relates to traffic control assembly and more particularly but without
limitation, to a pivoted assembly of traffic post and body.
Background of the invention
Traffic control equipments, such as signals, often are supported directly over the roadway,
usually on a mast arm extending from a traffic pole at the roadside. This is a preferred
location as the signals are easily visible to drivers. However, this location makes the repair
and maintenance of such signals problematic for the service personnel and inconvenient for
the driving public, as maintenance and repairs typically are performed only while the
roadway is closed.
Traffic posts are located alongside roadways to help guide traffic along the road, particularly
at night when reflectors mounted on the posts indicate the path ,the road takes into the
distance. These posts have traditionally been constructed of a square timber cross section and
have been installed by driving them into the ground, or by securing them in bore holes dug
it to the ground with cement. if required. The posts are arranged at regular intervals along the
roadway, particularly in country areas.
Traffic posts are also used to carry traffic signs (e.g. give way, speed limit and street signs)
and are typically located either beside the roadway or on a median strip or roundabout. These
traffic posts are commonly manufactured from extruded tubular or channel galvanised steel
sections and are also' rigidly secured either as above or by fastening the posts to a.concrete
surface by means of a flat base.
Whilst various pivoted assemblies of post and body have been proposed, the conventional
assemblies could not transfer load from post to body. The posts used to fly off or get ripped
once hit thereby damaging the post.
Despite the disadvantages mentioned above, there exists a need to provide a pivoted assembly
of post and body .allowing uniform load transfer from post to body, ease of replacement on
site without disturbing the preinstalled body. Said pivoted assembly of post and body
enhances the life of the post and the complete assembly.
Objectives of the present invention
The main objective of the present invention is. to provide a pivoted assembly of post and body
allowing uniform transfer of load from post to body.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an assembly that enhances& life of the
post and the assembly thereof.
Still another objective of the present invention is to provide a pivoted assembly post and body
Summary of the Invention
The present invention relates to a pivoted assembly of post and body allowing uniform load
transfer from post to. body, ease of replacement on site without disturbing the preinstalled
body wherein said pivoted assembly of post and body enhances the life of the post and the
complete assembly.
The said pivoted assembly comprises of a post with a longitudinally extending upper section
and a lower section. The said post is coupled to the body(centroverge ) with means of
aluminium pins thereby forming the complete pivoted' assembly unit. Said pivoted assembly
further comprises a bottom plate connected to the pole foundation and a top plate nonmovably
connectable to the base plate of the traffic pole. A bearing unit is contained between
the bottom plate , connected to the pole foundation and a top plate non- movably connectable
to the base plate of the traffic pole so that, when the pivoted assembly is installed between the
base plate and the pole foundation, the traffic pole is rotatable relative to the pole foundation.
The foundation is a concrete footing with four upwardly extending anchor bolts embedded
therein. .
The essential elements of the present invention are a body (centroverge)(3), anchor bolts ,
post (2) and pins(1).
Brief Description of Drawings
Fig 1 illustrates an enlarged sectional view of post and body.
Fig 2 illustrates perspective view of assembly comprising the post and the body.
Detailed Description of Drawings
Fig 1 illustrates an enlarged sectional view of post and body. The major elements namely pin,
post and body are illustrated.
Fig 2 illustrates perspective view of the pivoted assembly comprising the post and the body.
The said figures represents the entire pivoted assembly of traffic post and body along with the
anchor bolts embedded therein.
Detailed Description of Invention
The present invention relates to a pivoted assembly of post of a conventional structure and
design and a body allowing uniform load transfer fiom post to body, ease of replacement on
site without disturbing the preinstalled body wherein said pivoted assembly of post and body
enhances the life of the post and the complete assembly.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention , the pivoted assembly
comprises a post with a longitudinally extending upper section and a lower section. The said
post is coupled to the body with the support of aluminium pins thereby.forniing the complete
pivoted assembly unit;
According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the pivot assembly
further comprises a base assembly and a rotating assembly .The base assembly comprises a
bottom plate for connecting the pivoted assembly to the foundation. The rotating assembly
comprises a top plate for connecting the pivoted assembly to the base.In addition a bearing
unit is contained between the bottom plate , connected to the pole foundation and a top plate
non- movably connectable to the base plate of the traffic pole so that, when the pivot
assembly is installed between the base plate and the pole foundation, the traffic pole is
rotatable relative to the pole foundation. The foundation is a concrete footing with four
upwardly extending anchor bolts embedded therein. While it may be any shape, a square
shape is preferred.
According to another embodiment of the present invention the post discussed herein is not
damaged by any kind of hit which take up all of the load, due to tensile strength. Space is
present between pin and post thereby reducing the hit load and transfening load to the body.
The complete body assay is grouted to the road by means of anchor bolts.
Several embodiments of the present invention have been described, it should be apparent to
those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications can be made without departing
from the spirit and scope of the invention.
