Plate Shaped Nuclear Fuel Element And Method Of Manufacturing The Same

Abstract: The plate-shaped nuclear fuel element (2) comprises a core (4) made of a fissile material and a cladding (6), the cladding comprising a frame (8) defining a central aperture (10) receiving the core (4) and two cover plates (12) sandwiching the frame (8) and the core (4), wherein the frame (8) is made of a metallic first cladding material and the cover plates (12) are made of a metallic second cladding material, the first cladding material having a hardness strictly greater than the hardness of the second cladding material.
