Abstract: This plated steel material has a steel material and a plating layer; the plating layer has an average chemical composition that is composed of not less than 0.2% but less than 4.0% of Al, more than 4.0% but less than 12.5% of Mg, not less than 0.15% but less than 3.00% of Ca, not less than 65% of Zn and impurities; and in an any given vertical cross-section (in the thickness direction) of the plating layer, the metal structure contains, in area fractions, 10% to 40% of MgZn2 phases, 0% to 15% of Al-Zn phases, 0% to 5% of Al phases (Zn < 10%), 1.0% to 15% of CaZn13 phases, and 30% or more of (a ternary eutectic structure of Al/MgZn2/Zn) and (a binary eutectic structure of MgZn2/Zn) in total as observed by means of an observation field of view of a scanning-type electronic microscope.
