Plus (+) Glucometer

Abstract: A glucose meter is a medical device for determining the concentration of glucose in the blood. It gives information valuable to diabetes patients. This information is vital for maintaining the glucose level in their blood. This device incorporates an important feature that helps the diabetic patients having either disability of hearing loss or who are illiterate or are not aware of medical terms and conditions to know their glucose level. This device shows the result in two ways. Firstly , blood glucose level appears on the screen within 5 seconds after the completion of the process .Secondly, this glucose result appears through different colors of LED that indicates whether the glucose level is normal or high or low. The glucose meter stores the test results in the memory .This electronic device designed for monitoring the concentration level in the blood has excellent accuracy and low cost as compared to other glucose meters available in the market.

Specification

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
To solve the problem of self monitoring Glucose- Meter, most of the systems were invented
during the last decade. A non- invasive glucose detennination technique which utilizes
a measurement of radiation through the cornea of the eye, is disclosed in March U.S. Pat. No.
3.958,560. In this technique, the level of glucose in the bloodstream of the patient is a function of
the amount of radiation detected at the other side of the cornea of the patient. The insulin
injection is controlled by an implant disclosed in Edelman U.S. Pat. No. 4,073,292. which injects
Benedict's solution to react with urine from kidney, and also measures the transmittance of light
•from an LED to a photodetector. Rao, et al. U.S. Pat. No. 4,140,963 discloses glucose
concentration level with an electrochemical glucose cell which is further used to produce an
electrical signal corresponding to glucose level. A non- invasive glucose sensor system for
determination of sugar content in blood, glucose level that utilizes two frequencies of polarized
radiation and also the measurement of optical rotation is disclosed in March U.S. Pat. No.
4,014,321. In this context, the level of glucose in the bloodstream of the patient is a function of
the amount of the optical rotation of the radiation detected at the other side of the cornea of the
patient. US 4,704,029 discloses the glucose level of blood which utilizes refractometer that
measures the index of refraction of blood. Also, in similar terms, US 20110034794A1
discloses a blood glucose meter with an independent voice IC supporting post-production
adjustment of voice function.
All these systems suffered from a very poor signal to noise ratio. They also required a very heavy
computing system which resulted in inconsistent and unrepeatable results.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
The primary objective of the present invention is to provide the blood glucose meter. The glucose
concentration level value is displayed on the display panel LCD with LED backlit. LED backlit
display makes reading your numbers easy anytime and anywhere. Glucose result also
appears through different colors of LED that indicates whether the glucose level is normal or
high or low.
The secondary objective of the present invention is to provide device incorporates an important
feature that helps the diabetic patients having either disability of hearing loss or
who are illiterate or are not aware of medical terms and conditions to know their glucose level. o'
The third objective of the present invention is to provide a meter with rechargeable battery which
increase the life of meter, small sized and low cost.
BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG 2 is the schematic of the main controller that controls the function of the meter.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention presented a blood glucose meter , which is easy and simple to handle by
whole type of user whether users are illiterate or are not aware of medical terms and conditions,
small sized and low cost. The present invention can be used in various environments, day and
night because of LCD display with backlit.
FIG 1 depicts the Block diagram of the electronics circuit of the present invention.Firstly
It measures the current between two electrodes on an external measuring strip.Generated current
converted to the voltage that can be measured and sampled by an analog to digital
converter. Then calculated the glucose concentration level using microcontroller and the
calculated blood glucose value is displayed on the display panel LCD through the microcontroller
unit and also glow the related LED indicator.lt saves calculated blood glucose level
value to EEPROM memory.
FIG 2 depicts schematic of the main controller that controls the function of the present invention.
FIG 2.1 depicts the main controller of the meter. It will be used to control the glucose test circuit
cost, analyze measurements, drive an LCD display and glow the LED indicator. The STM8L152
microcontrollers feature embedded data EEPROM. The EEPROM embeds the error correction
code (ECC) feature.lt stores the last 7 reading of glucose level. 12-bit analog-to-digital converter
(ADCl) with 25 channels (including 1 fast channel), temperature sensor and internal reference
voltage are inbuilt in the Microcontroller. It converts analog signal to digital signal. This chip
will be easy to program due to the equipment and development software available in the lab. The
MCU will be programmed in assembly. STMicroelectronics has an ultra-low-power family of
MCUs based on the 8-bit STM8 core. The STM8L family combines high performance and ultralow
power consumption ,ultra-low leakage process and optimized architecture. This family is
declined in three different lines making the STM8L an optimal family to support many
applications with special care on power savings. STM8L has an ultra-low-power consumption
,high performance and optimized architecture and low.
FIG 2.2 depicts the TM12864H6CCOWA, Graphics LCD.It displays the Blood glucose value
with time and date. This unit consists of 128 (segment) x 64 (common) dots dot-matrix LCD
panel,NT75451 is a single-chip dot matrix LCD driver that can be connected directly to a
microprocessor bus.

FIG 2.3 depicts the power section.lt provides the power to the various section of electronics
circuit.FIG 2.4 depicts the USART(Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Receiver
Transmitter).It supports the PC's communication.
FIG 2.5 depicts the indicator of three different color of LED.The glucose result appears through
different colors of LED that indicates whether the glucose level is normal or high or low.In other
words , three color of LED declared the result of diabetes level where Red LED indicate the
danger level of diabetes and consult with doctor ,Green LED indicate the normal level of
diabetes.Yellow LED indicate almost to the high level of diabetes and its control through
diet.Result of diabetes shown by LED indicator which is easy and simple way to handle by every
type of user whether users are illiterate or are not aware of medical terms and conditions.
FIG 2.6 depicts the switch circuit or pushbutton. When a test strip inserted into the slot with the
contact bars facing up and hold the blood drop to the top edge of the test strip .After the delay of
some secs, pushbuttom U5 pressed.when you pressed the both buttom simultaneously U5 and
U6.then it displayed previous stored 7 reading one by one.
