Abstract: This Invention is a “Pneumatic Neck Extension Device” which provides Proper extension of neck during Head and Neck surgery. It allows proper exposure of essential organs and enables proper dissection. Our device is much required during the much critical surgery carried out in Head or Neck region. This pneumatic devise provides much needed comfort to the doctors during surgery, in reaching the essential parts more accurately and complete the surgery much comfortably. An appropriate neck extension devise is a much essential part to be used during the most critical Head and Neck surgery.
DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION:
An appropriate neck extension is an essential part of Head and Neck Surgery. Whether it is for a case as simple as Neck nodal dissection or cases like Laryngectomy or Pharyngectomy, an appropriate neck extension eases the job of adequate exposure and helps in proper dissection. However, not every neck is similar, hence, so far used methods are not one fit for all. We devised a method using commonly available equipment’s, by which we can manipulate the level of extension based on the requirement of surgery and the type of neck we are dealing with. We have given it a name of “Pneumatic Neck Extension Device”
BREIF DESCRIPTION ABOUT INVENTION:
Surgical positioners are used to position, support and prevent injury to the human body for patients undergoing surgery. These positioners are commonly made out of polyurethane foam, and are discarded after use. Proper extension of neck is an essential part of any Head and Neck surgery. It allows proper exposure of essential organs. However, every individual is different, with varying contour of neck and cervical spine. Presently used methods for neck ex- tension involved putting soft pillows, or folded towels, or at bigger centers putting silicone pads. But these methods cannot be one fit for all. We devised a method to have an individualized neck extension depending on patient’s neck contour and our requirement of extension.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION ABOUT INVENTION:
During critical surgery carried out in head or neck region proper extension of neck is the most essential part of the surgery as without that it gets very difficult for the doctors to carry out surgery smoothly.
The presently utilized method of extension includes:
1. IV Bottles - one of the most commonly mis-utilised one.
2. Folded drapes
3. Soft Pillow
4. Silicone fixed sized Bolsters
5. Silicone Head Rings
6. Silicone head Bolster
7. A Multiple breakable OT Table
However, none of them are actually a ‘One Fit for all’.
Patients have varied types of neck including short neck, webbed neck and patients with severe ankylosing spondylosis. For such patients, there are common methods that are not comprehensive, provide inadequate exposures in these patients. Moreover, surgeries for these types of ailment, demands various levels of neck extension and various postural changes during the surgery/procedure. Once again these commonly utilized methods do not provide us adequate help in these.
Pressure Infusion Bag is the commonly available equipment in all Operation Theatres for this procedure. This Pressure Infusion Bag, infuses rapid infusion of fluids at higher pressures. It is commonly utilized in settings of a patient in shock.
The Parts of Pressor Infusor bag- It has a cuff made of PVC/ plastic, a Barometer, tubing, three-way Stop-cock and Bellows.
Benefits in using our Inventive methods:
1. It’s a Pneumatic device which doesn’t require any special care or maintenance
2. Parts are cheap and replaceable.
3. It takes the contour of Neck.
4. Doesn’t hurt or harm the body, patient remains comfortable intraop and postoperatively.
5. Much cheaper than Silicone Bolsters.
6. Surgeons and Anaesthesiologist will find this Invention much helpful and supportive while intubating the patients; This invention will also be much useful during intubation as well.
7. By using our device, We do not require change of pillows or height
8. By using a sterile disposable cover over it, sterility is not an issue, nor is its cleaning difficult.
The concept behind the invention is to demonstrate an innovative usefulness of a commonly available and much cheaper option for the manipulation of neck extension during Head and Neck Surgeries. ,CLAIMS:We Claim,
