Abstract: An air filter assembly with a multiple piece filter for an HVAC unit is disclosed herein. The air filter assembly comprises a filter casing having a first inlet, a second inlet, and an outlet. The inlets and the outlet are positioned at outer periphery and provide passage for airflow. A plurality of filters is located in the filter casing and is positioned one after the other. Insertion of the filters into the filter casing is facilitated through an opening provided at the bottom of the filter casing. The opening receives the filters and aligns with an opening on an instrument panel. A shutter is provided to close the opening of the filter casing.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention
Field of Invention:
The present invention in general relates to automobile air conditioning system. The present invention particularly relates to a pollen air filter in an automobile heater, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit.
Background:
Conventionally, HVAC unit in an automobile is placed under an instrument panel. Air is drawn into the HVAC unit either from inside the cabin of the automobile or from outside atmosphere and is cooled or heated up as per passenger need within the HVAC unit and is finally distributed to the passengers.
However, sometimes the air drawn into the HVAC contains dust particles or is filled with bad odor. Dust particles present in the air cause damage the heat exchangers as well as the blowers in the HVAC unit. Thus, filtration of the air drawn into HVAC is necessary in order to protect the HVAC unit as well as to provide fresh, clean and odorless air to passengers. Filters are employed within the HVAC units to bring about filtration of the air supplied to the passengers.
Filters generally require frequent cleaning and servicing. The filters serve a critical function within the automobile air conditioning system and a design of the filter that facilitates serviceability is very important for their good performance.
Thus, there exists a need for a filter that is conveniently accessed and easy to clean or service.
1
Objects of the Invention:
An object of the present invention relates to providing clean, fresh, odorless and dust free air to the passenger.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a filter design that is easy to clean and service.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide filtration of air without causing any significant drop in the air flow within the air conditioning system of the automobile.
One more object of the invention is to provide a design that facilitates easy removal of the filter with minimum changes in the design of the automobile.
Various modifications of the disclosed objects, as well as alternate objects of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention as defined.
Description:
The present invention relates to a two piece serviceable pollen air filter in an automobile HVAC unit. Generally, the HVAC unit is placed under the instrument panel in an automobile. Due to limitation of space within the automobile and the location of the HVAC the accessibility of the filter within the HVAC is difficult. Reduced accessibility makes it difficult to service and clean the filter. The method and system of present invention provides easily serviceable filters for automobile HVAC unit.
2
Fig. 1 exemplarily illustrates an air conditioning unit 100 with the two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200 placed within.
In accordance with one of the embodiment the air conditioning unit 100 mainly comprises a heater blower assembly 110, an evaporator casing 120 and a fresh air damper 130. The fresh air damper 130 has a fresh air entry 132 and a recirculation air entry 134 and has the two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200 placed within it. The two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200 is placed within the fresh air damper 130 in such a way that both fresh air and recirculated air is filtered.
Fig. 2a, 2b and 2c exemplarily depict the method in which the two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200 can be removed from the fresh air damper 130 for cleaning or servicing purposes. The two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200 is specifically designed and is made two-piece to facilitate its removal from the fresh air damper 130. The removal of a single piece filter experiences hindrance from the instrument panel which is overcome by employing the two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200.
Fig. 2a illustrates the first step involved in removal of the two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200. The bottom shutter 210 of the fresh air damper casing is removed. Thereafter, as illustrated in Fig. 2b the first piece 220 of the two piece serviceable pollen air filter 200 is dragged out of the casing. While the first piece 220 is being dragged out, the second piece 230 remains still at its original position. After the first piece 220 is completely pulled out, the second piece 230 is dragged to the position of the first piece 220. Fig. 2c depicts the second piece 230 being pulled out of the casing.
3
After servicing the two pieces, the serviceable pollen air filter 200 can be put back into its position following the step involved in removing the serviceable pollen air filter 200, in a reverse order.
The two piece design allows the removal of the filter which would otherwise be obstructed by the instrument panel. The surface of the instrument panel, just below the second piece 230 hindered the removal of a single piece pollen air filter. A single piece pollen air filter could not be easily removed by a human without causing damage to the filter.
Although the invention has been described with reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention as defined.
