Abstract: The present invention addresses the problem of providing a polyolefin microporous membrane that when incorporated into a battery as a separator exhibits excellent impact resistance and contributes to excellent battery characteristics. This polyolefin microporous membrane has the following features (1) to (5). (1) The tensile strength (MPa) and tensile elongation (%) in the MD and TD directions satisfy the following relationship (I): [(tensile strength in MD direction × tensile elongation in MD direction/100)2 + (tensile strength in TD direction × tensile elongation in TD direction/100)2]1/2 = 300. (2) The tensile strength in the MD and TD direction are 196 MPa or more. (3) The maximum pore size determined using a Perm-Porometer is 60 nm or less. (4) The mean flow pore size determined using a Perm-Porometer is 40 nm or less. (5) The porosity is 40% or more.

elongation in TD (the tensile elongation in MD / the tensile
elongation in TD) is at least 0.75 to up to 1.25.
[Claim 4]
A polyolefin microporous membrane according to any one of claims 1 to 3 having the following property (8):
(8) the tensile elongation in MD and the tensile elongation
