Abstract: A locking system is disclosed herein for use in a vehicle door. The locking system comprises a locking knob coupled to an actuating member that is operatively connected to the locking mechanism. A top portion of the locking knob extends out of a trim panel of the door whereas a bottom portion is disposed within the trim panel. The bottom portion of the locking knob has a longitudinal bore for receiving an actuating member.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION The following specification describes the invention
1
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a pop-up knob operatively connected to a vehicle door locking mechanism for locking and opening of the door.
BACKGROUND
Pop-up knobs are commonly used to actuate the locking mechanisms of an automobile door. The knob is coupled to a threaded rod of the locking mechanism of the door. The knob is adapted to be connected to the locking mechanism for selectively locking or unlocking the door by sliding movement of the knob main body with respect to the door.
Figure 1 shows a prior art pop-up knob 102 used for locking and opening of the door from inside. The pop-up knob 102 is connected to the locking mechanism of automobile door (not shown in figure). The problem with the prior art knob 102 is that while pulling it upside there is possibility of the pop-up knob 102 coming out of door trim panel 104 by excessive pulling of the knob 102. As opening in the door trim panel 104 is more than the width of the knob 102 and there is nothing to prevent excessive pulling of the knob, there is a possibility of the knob 102 getting detached from the locking mechanism.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to prevent a pop-up knob detaching from the locking mechanism of automobile door and consequently coming out of door trim panel.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a stopper on a pop-up knob to prevent the pop-up knob coming out of door trim panel.
2
Yet another object of the present invention is to prevent a pop-up knob coming out of door trim panel.
The invention is described with reference to the embodiments given hereinafter. It may however be understood that the embodiments are only by way of example and that the invention may be exemplified in many other ways obvious to a person skilled in the art.
DESCRIPTION
Figure 2 shows a pop-up knob 202 embodying the present invention and Figure 3 shows the sectional view of the pop-up knob 202. The pop-up knob 202 has a longitudinal extending bore 208. The bore 208 is configured to receive a threaded portion of an actuating member of a locking mechanism of the door. The knob 202 is adapted to be connected to the locking mechanism for selectively locking or unlocking the door by sliding movement of the knob main body with respect to the door.
At the lower part of the pop-up knob 202, a stopper 204 is provided. The stopper 204 prevents excessive pulling of the pop-up knob 202. In one embodiment the stopper 204 is concave protrusion as shown in Figure 2. Thus when the knob 202 is pulled upside, the stopper 204 prevents excessive pulling of the knob 202 from door trim 206. In another embodiment the stopper 204 can be of any other shape such as convex which can prevent coming out of the pop-up knob from door trim 206.
It is reiterated that the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments.
3
Various other embodiments of the invention will be apparent to a person skilled in the art or follow from routine experimentation.
