The present invention relates to a portable stair climbing mechanism for the conventional trolley. More particularly, the present invention may assist the users to carry the trolley smoothly and steadily along the stairways.
BACKGROUND ART
[0002] Despite the fact that wheeled luggage tends to overcome the dilemma of carrying luggage on flat surfaces with little to no discontinuities, it also had to be picked up while traversing stairwells. With passing time, more and more innovations have emerged that allows luggage to be pulled up and down through staircases using wheels and electronic motors, among other things. While all of these innovations have certain drawbacks, such as mechanisms that operated on electricity requiring support, and devices that had to be connected to the trolley in such a manner that they had to be taken around all the time. Motivated by these facts, the present aim of the invention is to incorporate a technology that is user-friendly, light-weighted, comfortable, compact, and mechanically driven mechanism. The present invention relates to conventional trolley with wheels to assist them in climbing up or down the staircase. More specifically, the present invention relates to a trolley with a portable mechanism mounted on the back of the trolley to assist in pulling it up or down at any staircase. The mechanism also has a locking device through which height adjustment can be done according to the size of the staircase.
[0003] US patent no. US6938740 to Cheryl M Gandy discloses a suitcase with stair roller and brakes. Cheryl's suitcase comprised of an internal chamber with two panels, which facilitate a rolling movement of the suitcase across the stairs of flight with braking system. This invention includes a new design of suitcase and but limited to the stairs of flight. However, the housing mechanism will not be suitable for the conventional trolley and public staircase.
[0004] US patent no. US5575362 to Ming-Shi Chou discloses a wheeled suitcase with rectangular body. Chou placed the rollers at the bottom of the suitcase. These rollers provide smooth movement only on the flat surface. However, chou's
invention is not suitable for the public or flight staircase because at the same instance, it cannot engage two successive steps. Hence, it will be difficult to carry the wheeled suitcase on staircase.
[0005] US patent no. US6041900 to Bernard D. Sadow et al. discloses towable article of luggage. Sadow's placed the wheels in the bottom as well as front face of the luggage to provide improved stability on flat surface and enhanced weight carry-ability. However, this arrangement of wheels does not offer a successive engagement to navigate multiple stairs at one time.
[0006] Indian patent no. IN2014DE00789A to Poddar Shashi and Sharma Dewakar discloses to manually controlled stair climbing aid for luggage. This innovation enables the suitcase to be dragged up or down through the stairs of airplane without having to be held or removed. The invention is more specifically concerned with the judicious organization of a multitude of wheels in order to stop a jerky motion. The telescopic handle is equipped with a spring-loaded internal gear locking mechanism that allows it to be positioned at different angles, while the slider assembly prevents the luggage from moving freely during descent and ascent. This innovation however is not suitable for public stairways with variable height and width.
[0007] US patent no. US 20110127732A1 to Kevin et al. discloses to star climbing wheel with multiple configurations. The stair climbing wheel is made up of a rolling wheel and a number of transportable protrusions that allow it to ascend the stairs. The stair climbing wheel acts as a conventional revolving wheel when retracted. These stair climbing wheels can be fitted to a wide range of cars, from hand trucks, wheelchairs, and personal transports, allowing them to climb the stairs. The stair climbing wheel aid an advantage in relation to typical stair sizes. However, the invention also is not suitable for the conventional trolleys.
[0008] Most of the invention above, tried to develop a new mechanism with different design in the trolley or suitcase having limited accuracy. Thus, there is hardly any mechanism which is proved to be entirely satisfactory in case of conventional trolley. Continuous efforts are going to develop robust portable
mechanism for carrying conventional trolley in stairways which can provide better precision in performance, low cost, and ease in operation.
[0009] Therefore, an improved portable mechanism for conventional trolley is required for dragging the trolley on stairways.
