Abstract: The present invention pertains to a positive electrode active material and a method for preparing same. The positive electrode active material comprises a lithium nickel-based oxide in the form of single particles, quasi-single particles, or a mixture thereof, wherein the number of nickel ions having an oxidation number of at least +3 is greater on the surface of the lithium nickel-based oxide than the number of nickel ions having an oxidation number of less than +3.
