PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention
The present invention relates to synthesis of Poly (alkyl undecylenate - co- maleic anhydride) dibenzylate from cheaper materials, Undecylenic acid and fatty alcohols (C8 -C22), as pour point depressants for crude oil
The pour point is the lowest temperature at which fluid can flow under standard conditions. A pour point depressant lowers that temperature to easy flow of the fluid. A number of compounds are known to improve the low temperature viscometrics of oils. These compounds are known as "pour point depressants"(PPD's). Known PPD's for fluids include, but are not limited to: modified carboxy containing interpolymers; acrylate polymers; nitrogen containing acrylate polymers; and, methylene linked aromatic compounds. The pour point depressants designed to control wax crystal formation in the crude oil resulting in lower pour point and improved low temperature flow performance of the oil.
Many more methods are employed to avoid the wax deposition in transportation and storage of crude oil. These methods include keeping transportation lines hot, heating the pipelines, diluting the crude with solvents and treatment of additives. The flow improver in the crude oil hinders the crystallization of the wax molecules by incorporation of the polymer molecules at the fastest growing edge or dislocation and thus modifies the crystal shape of the wax and inhibits the deposition
Unfortunately, known PPDs are costly. The advantage of the invention PPDs to improve the low temperature behaviour of the crude oil. Is low cost additives taken from cheaper materials
Accordingly the invention provides synthesis of Poly (alkyl undecylenate - co- maleic anhydride) dibenzylate as pour point depressants
In one embodiment, the invention provides synthesis of Poly (alkyl undecylenate - co-maleic anhydride) dibenzylates ar cheaper materials, Undecylenic acid and fatty alcohols (C8 - C22), not carcinogenic.
The present invention relates to synthesis of Poly (alkyl undecylenate - co- maleic anhydride) dibenzylate as biodegradable pour point depressants for crude oil, said alkyl undecylenate, synthesized by esterification process of undecylenic acid and aliphatic straight chain saturated alcohols (decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl, hexadecyl, octadecyl and behenyl alcohol) with suitable catalyst (H2S04) by azeotropic distillation at reflux temperature of xylene (-136° - 141 ° C) for 8 to 12 hours followed by neutralization and solvent recovery by vacuum distillation. The alkyl undecylenate were copolymerized double recrystallized maleic anhydride in 1:1 ratio benzene as solvent under nitrogen atmosphere with Azobis isobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator in benzene at 50 - 55° C with constant stirring for 5 hours followed by purification process
In further step, copolymer of alkyl undecylenate & maleic anhydride was undergone esterification process with aromatic alcohol (benzyl alcohol) to get diester in presence of p-toulene sulfonic acid and H2S04 as catalyst, Xylene as solvent with azeotrpric process at (~ 136° - 141 ° C), followed by neutralization and purification processes. The Poly (alkyl undecylenate - co- maleic anhydride) dibenzylate of this invention used as pour point depressant for crude oil, 1000 to 3000 pprrt of this invention copolymer to crude oil, The pour point reduced upto 12 Deg C and PPDs are effective and economical
