Field of the invention:
The present invention generally relates to pourable dishwash detergents with enhanced
cleaning power, particularly against dried-on and burnt-on soil. The present invention
provides a stable chemical composition for good cleaning performance on hard surfaces,
which comprises high level of surfactants and abrasive loading and having good pourable
consistency. Said pourable dishwash detergent composition for enhanced cleaning comprises
of surfactant mixture and suspended abrasive particles, stabilized with polymer rheology
modifier.
Background and Object of the Invention
Conventional dishwashing compositions, generally in the form of pastes are liquid or gel, are
suitable for forming hardened dishwashing agents that have a similar look and feel to that of a
bar of soap. Once the pastes are formed, their chemistry allows them to harden to a desired
hardness level for packaging and sale to customers.
Dishwashing paste compositions are typically formed of a high amount of abrasive/filler
material, Such as calcium carbonate, that is suspended in a viscous solution which includes
surfactant(s), sodium carbonate, and sodium silicate, as well as other additives. The sodium
silicate is the primary component structuring component that allows the dishwashing
composition to harden by providing silica that polymerizes when mixed with the other
components. The surfactants provide the foaming and cleansing properties of the dish
washing agent, while the abrasive particles provide aid to cleansing property. Sodium
carbonate helps to adjust the pH level of the formula. The conventional dishwash paste
products do not flow easily due to the hardening of the product with structuring agents.
However, it is desired that product has good pourability as it’s convenient to use.US 2017/0183608 A1 provides dishwash paste comprising abrasives, pH modifying agent,
silicate based structuring agent and a source of polyvalent cation. Invention discloses the
achieving of target hardness more quickly, while maintaining that hardness for an extended
period of time. The developed hardness causes the restriction in ease flow of the product.
US 4941988 discloses pourable liquid automatic dishwashing detergent compositions having
polyacrylate polymer thickener, an alkali metal silico-aluminate colloid, surfactants, chlorine
bleach ingredients and builders. The alkali metal silico-aluminate is used as structuring agent.
The compositions have low viscosities however the disclosed maximum surfactant level is
only 5% and invention does not mention the application of abrasive particles.
US 2005/0176614 A1 discloses a substantially transparent, liquid cleaning product for hard
surfaces, comprising at least 15% by weight of a surfactant and one or more
polymeric/natural abrasive materials selected from the group having a diameter from 0.6 to 4
mm, natural materials having a diameter of from 0.05 to 4 mm, and mixtures thereof. The
viscosity of the product is controlled in the range of 2.5 Pa.s to 100 Pa.s, which makes it
flowable. However, said prior art does not claim the liquid cleaning composition with
inorganic abrasive material.
US006001791A discloses the invention to provide a detergent for institutional dishwashing
machines with the consistency of a paste without the need of thickeners or extenders. Alkalimetal tripolyphosphate, alkali-metal hydroxide, carbonate, or metasilicate were used as
structuring agents. Invention discloses paste viscosity of 50-800 Pas. However, said prior art
does not talk about the abrasive nature of particles in its paste-like detergent.
US4968445 discloses stable and thixotropic aqueous liquid automatic dishwashing detergent
composition with improved anti-filming properties. Said detergent composition comprises
silica anti-filming particles, inorganic builder salts, chlorine bleach, bleach stable detergent and a thixotropic thickener. Products having high particles loading (more than 5%) are not
disclosed in the invention.
Another prior art WO 00/36078 provides pourable liquid products for textiles in which
encapsulated active ingredients are suspended with the aid of polymeric thickeners. These
active ingredients are enzymes, bleaches, per fumes, etc. which are to be incorporated stably
in the liquid product. Suspended active ingredients are not envisaged as abrasive.
Another patent application WO02/38720 describes pourable clear surfactant-containing
cleaning gels comprising macroscopic abrasive particles. Such particles may be inorganic
substances, or else polymer granules or hard waxes. The surfactant content is between 0.1
and 15%. The gels are used to clean hard Surfaces. However the said art does not disclose
any technical fact relating to possibility of having particles size less than 500 micron in its
cleaning gel composition.
The German application DE-A 19918267 describes manual dishwashing liquids, in which
microcapsules comprising various active ingredients are suspended. An abrasive action of
these suspended particles is not envisaged here either, but rather the shell of the
microcapsules opens on use and releases the active ingredient present.
Therefore, in the conventional practice, those manual dishwashing composition and other
cleaning products for hard surfaces, which exhibit high surfactant and abrasive loading in
order to achieve good cleaning performance, fail to achieve good pourable consistency of
product and no such dishwashing compositions detergent is known in the art which, without
compromising with the good cleaning performance, simultaneously involves high surfactant
load, high abrasive load and high degree of pourability.
It is not at all obvious for a person skilled in the art having common general knowledge of the
concerned field, to achieving a stable pourable liquid cleaning composition with higher
surfactant (preferably more than 5%, more preferably more than 10%) and abrasive materialloading (preferably more than 5%, more preferably more than 10%) and viscosity value at
ambient temperature (25 °C) in the range of 1 Pa.s to 50 Pa.s, preferably 2 Pa.s to 25 Pa.s and
more preferably 5 Pa.s to 10 Pa.s.; particularly because of substantial inventive steps involved
in preparation and optimization of such pourable and stable aqueous liquid cleaning.
Therefore, the prime object of the present invention to provide a cleaning product for hard
surfaces which comprises a high level of surfactants and abrasive loading, has good cleaning
performance and is additionally has good pourable consistency.
Another object of the present invention is to provide such a pourable and stable aqueous

thereof ; up to 10% of mono or polyvalent cation(s) and wherein said pourable and stable
aqueous liquid cleaning composition shows high viscosity value up to 50 Pa.s., depending
upon the composition thereof.

stable aqueous liquid dish washing detergent composition has viscosity value at ambient
temperature (25 °C) in the range of 1 Pa.s to 50 Pa.s, preferably 2 Pa.s to 25 Pa.s and more
preferably 5 Pa.s to 10 Pa.s.
