DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
We have designed a system which generates power from the vehicle and from this power the water treatment plant runs. The water treatment plant can handle variable pressure from 1 bar till 50 bar in a single plant for treatment of water and produce drinking water being unique itself. The system is a combination of mechanical components and electrical components. Mechanical components include Power Take Off (PTO) gear, with pulley and V belt mechanism which is connected to the electrical component which is alternator which generates power from the vehicle.
Power take-off (PTO) allows the hosting energy source to transmit power to additional equipment that does not have its own engine or motor.
We have used the PTO gear whose input gear is connected with the propeller shaft of the vehicle’s engine. The output of the PTO gear box will be connected to one end of driving pulley. The other end of driving pulley will be connected to the Alternator.
The connection of PTO to alternator is done by different shaft and belt. According to the power calculation, number of belts will be selected. Assembly design plays a very vital role and has been done from PTO to alternator through intermediate shaft. Using the Principle of PTO and Alternator, here the main engine power transfer through PTO to alternator for producing electricity which can be used for further applications as per requirement.
The main engine power transfer to PTO by main shaft and the same input power transfer from PTO in two different applications. In Auxiliary mode, PTO output power transfer to alternator through intermediate shaft. Whole assembly design of Power generation unit is mentioned in Fig-1.
When Vehicle engine is on, we need to engage the PTO with the vehicle. Once the PTO is connected with the vehicle, the PTO gear with the belt starts moving. we need to fix the vehicle RPM @ 1500. Once vehicle RPM reaches 1500 RPM then the alternator starts giving rated current. Basically through vehicle propeller shaft, we rotate the Pulley via PTO gear, once the alternator pulley is rotated, alternating current (AC) passes through a magnetic field and an electrical current is generated.
V belt is selected with Alternator and pulley considering the precise power transmission requirement. V belt provides the best combination of traction, speed of movement, load of the bearings and long service life.
Added:
The invention described in this Patent solves the need of providing clean Potable water in remote areas where clean water is not available, and the Source of Electrical Power is also not available. The above objective is met by integrating several existing Products available in the market and integrating and controlling them for achieving the above mentioned objective.
The Commercially available Vehicle is suitably modified to suite the above objective. Refer Figure -1. The Cargo Area 60 is fully opened up by removing the standard protection structure provided in Cargo Vehicle. An Additional Structure 60 is provided to protect the inside plant element, and at the same time providing necessary accessibility for Operation and Maintenance of the Water Purification Plant.
Just Behind the driver cabin 10, the Power Generating Alternator 40 is placed. This location gives the flexibility of driving the Alternator 40 through a series of specifically designed Power Transmission Components like Belts, Pulleys, Plummer Block Bearings and Propeller Shafts. The Transmission Components are described and illustrated in details in Figure 3. The Alternator 40 is controlled by Electrical Panel 30. The panel is located in such a way that the operations of Plant can be controlled by operator standing outside the plant, and monitoring the performance of the Water Purification plant. The Parameters which are controlled are mainly Flow of Water and the Pressure at which the unclean water is fed to the plant.
The necessary pressure for unclean water is generated by Pumps 50 mounted behind the driver cabin. The pumps are driven by the electrical power of the alternator, and produces set pressure continuously driving the dirty water through the Water Purification System of Pre Filters and Reverse Osmosis Filters 20. The Orientation and position of Filters 20 is placed at the Rear of cargo cabin so that the performance of Filters can be monitored and periodic cleaning, inspection, maintenance and replacement of Filter elements can be performed easily without dismantling other Plant Components.
The Piping, Control Gauges, Wiring and Intermediate storage tanks are fully integrated in the cargo space, providing a complete self contained unit, which requires only un clean water as input and produces the clean water as an output. Thus Figure 1 described the Preferred Embodiment of Arrangement of Water Purification Plant within the available Cargo Space of Standard Commercial Vehicle.
The above objective is achieved by a newly invented Power Take Off unit which specifically provides the selection of Power output to either Vehicle Propeller Shaft and Differential of Rear Wheels, or to another Flange which drives the Alternator. Figure - 2 shows the main components of the preferred embodiment Power Take Off unit. The Power Take Off unit is connected to Lever 10 with cables. When the lever 10 is in forward selection the Power of the Engine is delivered to the differential wheels connected to flange 30. In case the the lever is pulled backwards the internal gears of the output shaft switches and the power is transmitted to flange 40. In both cases the power of engine via Transmission Gearbox of vehicle is delivered to input power flange 20.
The Speed of the input flange 20 is controlled by selecting suitable Gear of the Vehicle, and keeping the constant speed of the engine by selecting the accelerator cable position at a marked location. In case of the power is delivered to the Alternator 80, the details of components are shown in Figure 3. When the vehicle is driving the power of vehicle is delivered to flange 40 which is connected to Propeller shaft 50 which in turn connects to rear wheel differential. The Preferred embodiments Belts and Pulleys in two stages shown by 60 and 70 are so designed and sized that the necessary constant speed on load required to drive the alternator efficiently at specified speed is achieved. The arrangement of Belts and pulleys are supported by Plummer blocks 90. Thus the arrangement of belts and pulleys shown in 60 and 70 needs to be matched to the requirement of Water Purification Plant and depends on available power and torque at the vehicle engine output flange. The whole arrangement of Power Take off units and belts and pulleys
Figure - 4 shows the Housing and Details of the invention of Power Take Off unit external view. The PTO is mounted by a suitable housing mounting flange 10 from top. The operation of PTO generates heat due to meshing of internal gears and power transmission and is lubricated and cooled by the oil poured into the PTO chamber. The level of Oil is indicated by the level glass 20. Due to transmission of power heat is generated and the same is dissipated to oil which results into oil fumes created in the PTO chamber. These fumes are released to atmosphere by letting them out through breather 30. The PTO has gears, shafts, bearings and splines arrangement for power output flange selection.
