“Prefilming Air Blast (Pab) Pilot Having Annular Splitter Surrounding A Pilot Fuel Injector”

Abstract: A fuel nozzle (10) is provided for a gas turbine engine, and can include a pilot fuel injector (18) having an axially-elongated, inner pilot centerbody wall (40) and an outer pilot centerbody wall (41), with the axially-elongated, inner pilot centerbody wall (40) extending from an upstream end to an annular fuel passage (25) defining the downstream end of the pilot fuel injector (18). The fuel passage intersects with the inner pilot centerbody wall (40) at a pilot fuel metering orifice (21). The fuel nozzle (10) also includes a pilot fuel film surface downstream from the annular fuel passage (25) and an annular splitter (28) surrounding the pilot fuel injector (18). The annular splitter (28) comprises, in axial sequence: an upstream section, a splitter throat (56) having a diameter that is larger than a downstream diameter defined by the pilot fuel film surface, and a downstream diverging surface (58) having an average diverging angle of about 24° to about 40° in relation to a centerline axis (26).
