Abstract: Slipping of lagging material from pipelines were a serious flight safety issues, as the failure of lagging material can transfer heat to critical flight instruments. Segmental lagging process can eliminate this kind of accidents. With this process, lagging material is parted in to different segments and held with spot welds. This will avoid accumulation of lagging material to side of the pipeline over the service life thus increasing the efficiency and durability of system.
DESCRIPTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention describes the Segmental Lagging Methodology for "Firm fixing of Heat Insulating material over Pipe Assembly (Assy)" in LCA Aircraft.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) consists of 30 Pipe Assemblies in Environmental Control System (ECS) module which needs to be wrapped around with heat resistant material (Jehier 727-HT) to reduce Heat Loss & avoid heat radiation to adjacent parts and also to increase the efficiency of various systems. This invention will increase the effectiveness and durability by firmly fixing of Insulation material with Segmental Lagging Methodology.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
This process of fixing insulating material over the pipe periphery avoids the frequent loosening of lagging material in turn improves the effectiveness and efficiency of Insulation. Loosening of lagging material leads to tearing of cover sheet due to gap generation between pipe and cover sheet.
PROCESS DETAIL DESCRIPTION
General method of high temperature lagging on Pipe Assembly:
a) Generally, these pipe assemblies are of different shape and size depending upon the functional requirement on Aircraft.
b) Lagging from one end to other end by continuous single piece wrapping of Lagging material over pipe assembly and covering with corrugated top sheet. In this method there was no provision for segmental procedure.
Segmental Lagging Methodology process of high temperature lagging on Pipe Assembly:
a) In this new method, each pipe assembly should be divided into small segments depending on shape and curvature (Fig : 1)
b) Each segment is made by spot welding of round cups having "z" cross section over pipe assembly, (thickness of 0.2mm steel alloy sheet) as per Fig : 2
c) Lagging to be carried out each segment separately as per Fig : 3
d) Complete all segmental Lagging ref Fig : 4
e) Drawings are revised in order to introduce "Z" cups and segmental lagging carried out satisfactorily to improve durability and efficiency.
CLAIMS
1. We claim that due to introduction of segmental lagging process, durability and efficiency of lagging can be improved.
