Process Development Of Wing Pick Up Points And Fusulage Pick Up Points Boring Operation

Abstract: ABSTRACT .LCA Tejas aircraft consists of 8 mounting points of wing to the fuselage structure using bolts. While aligning these mounting points, the pre drilled holes of root fittings (wing pick up) and fuselage pick up are to be bored and finished in line in the main assembly coupling jig to achieve interchangeability (ICY) between wing and fuselage structure. This invention describes boring process developed for achieving the required geometrical tolerance and accuracy than the used conventional process.

UbbLKIHIlUN TECHNICAL FIELD

A Guided Boring bar in the Bracket of Wing ICY Points in Coupling Jig is used for Boring of Wing pick up points and Fuselage Pick up points.(Fig.3)

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

Guided Boring Bar for boring pick up points for wing and fuselage uses a High Speed Steel (HSS) conventional tool shank brazed with a carbide tip. With this method it was difficult to achieve the required dimensional tolerance. Circularity of the Bore was varying from 0.05-0.075 mm. This variation was due to difficulty in providing the proper depth of cut because of manual adjustment of conventional tool. Removal of Boring bar every time from the coupling Jig Inter changeability (ICY) brackets for adjusting depth of cut was consuming more time. A minimum of 16 set ups were required for completion of one boring operation which consumes enormous time (30 days).

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

As per the study conducted and analyzed root Causes such as of manual set up errors, fatigue for the employee due to-constant changing of tool setting/removal were observed. To overcome this observations new process of introducing Micro adjustable Boring cartridge in •place of a conventional tool shank with carbide insert as shown in Fig 1 was adopted.

The newly introduced Micro adjustable Cartridge (Fig.2) enables to provide the depth of cut of 2 microns by rotating the micro head of the Micro adjustable cartridge using Allen key. The cut can be given in the same set up without removing the Boring bar from the ICY Brackets of the coupling jig thus saves time for many set ups for providing the cuts. Correct Bore size achieved because of precise cut feed provision using Micro adjustable Boring Cartridge.

The guided boring bar operates using Auto Feed Drill (AFD) gun mounted on the rigid brackets.
