Specification

Process for dimensionalizinq decal and articles there of

Field of the Invention:

The present invention relates generally to chrome decal appliques and specifically for a two wheeler.

Background of the Invention:

Painting has long been the process of choice for applying coatings to the surfaces, especially those having curvature. Painting is generally a controllable, reliable, easy and versatile process. The paint can include additives to give the surface desired physical properties. However, painting is falling under closer environmental scrutiny because paints use volatile solvents to carry the binder and pigments. Therefore, there is a need to replace the painting process with a process that has less environmental impact. Painted surfaces sometimes lack the durability that quality conscious customers demand.

Spraying inherently wastes paint and is unpredictable because of the art involved with the application. Currently chrome decals are of considerable interest today for commercial applications. Typically these chrome decals are printed on PET (poly ethylene terephthalate) or PU (polyurethane) film. These said films are hugely expensive than the regular PVC (poly vinyl chloride) films. These chrome decals are pasted on the required surface and the required design is printed on the said base chrome decal, this process leaves a large unprinted chrome decal surface. In this way, a heavy cost is incurred on the base raw material of chrome film.

This invention relates to the field of decalcomania, which includes the process of transferring decorative designs onto surfaces using decals.

Summary of the Invention:

An object of the present invention is to dimensionalize the chrome decal as per the requirement and thereby eliminating its use on 100 percent area wherever not required. Another object of the present invention is to applique the chrome decal on the PVC film.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a cost effective approach for chrome decal to be used on two wheelers. Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

Brief Description of the Drawings:

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein

FIG. 1 is a conventional scooter type motorcycle.

FIG. 2 shows dimensionalizing decal according to one of the embodiment of the present invention.

Detailed Description of the Drawings:

For the purpose of illustration a scooter of the general type is illustrated for the application. Referring to figure 1, Referring to figure 1, a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a leg shield made of resin or raetal, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.

The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider's seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.

A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.

The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the vehicle.

According to one of the embodiments of the present invention, a chrome decal 201 is pasted on the PVC, film 202 to provide the desired aesthetics for the two-wheeler.

In a two wheeler, there are lots of exposed parts which are generally used to cover the vehicle body parts and provide a good appearance to the vehicle. These parts are mostly the fuel tank cover or the side panels of the vehicle. The process for dimensionalizing chrome decal includes pasting the first substrate which is a regular PVC film 202 on the desired surface of the vehicle 203 and if required it is printed accordingly. The second step includes the pasting or appliqueing the designed chrome decal 201 which is printed on PET/ PU film over the first substrate 202. The said chrome decal 201 is provided with extended transparent locators 204 to locate the said chrome decal 201 properly on the first substrate 202 to avoid the shift and match productivity.

The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.

We Claim:

1. A process for dimensionalizing chrome decal comprising the steps of:

pasting a first substrate which is a regular PVC film on the desired surface of the vehicle and accordingly printing it if required;

appliqueing the designed chrome decal which is printed on PET/ PU film over the first substrate; and locating the designed chrome decal over the first substrate using the extended locators.

2. An article obtained by the process as claimed in claim 1.
