PROCESS FOR ENRICHMENT OF CALCIUM IN ARJUNA BARK POWDER
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention provides an efficient process for enrichment of calcium in Arjuna bark powder. The process is environment friendly, waste-free and highly efficient in increasing the calcium content in Arjuna bark powder.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The following background discussion includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
Plant sources that are naturally rich in bio-available calcium are limited. Commonly recommended plant sources of calcium include kale, legumes, figs, bok choy, and broccoli. According to published literature, the quantity and bio-availability of calcium within these foods is far lower than dairy products or calcium fortified foods.
Factors in the human body can also influence calcium bio-availability. Calcium is absorbed across the gut by vitamin D dependent active transport and facilitated diffusion. Therefore, an individual’s vitamin D levels can affect calcium absorption. Factors such as sex, age, and individual calcium stores affect the rate of facilitated diffusion.
It is commonly suggested that people who do not consume animal products, particularly dairy, should eat foods fortified with calcium or take a calcium and vitamin D supplement to meet the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for this mineral. Thus, plant derived calcium is a more sustainable way as compared to dairy to get the daily calcium fix.
Hence, there is a need of plant derived calcium enriched dietary composition and an efficient method of enriching calcium content in a plant material/ parts. Particularly, there is a need of plant derived calcium enriched dietary composition and an efficient method of enriching calcium content in arjuna bark or powder thereof.
