Abstract: PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THE REGENERABLE ANTIMICROBIAL FABRIC The present invention relates to a process of producing an regenerable antimicrobial fabric where the steps comprise of Preparing the greige fabric for Continuous Bleaching Range (CBR) by way of scorching and size removal and subject it to caustic treatment to bleach. The bleached product is vat dyed at specific humidity controlled ambience where the humidity is maintained at 12-80% at 80-150 deg C. The fabric is subjected to moisture controlled chemical Padding with padder moisture is maintained at 10-80% at temperature 80-150 deg C , where the chemicals used are Hals or MBA, Allyl or alkyl derivatives of 5,5 Dimethylhydantoin. This is followed by chlorination using hypochlorite and finally finish with tear strength improving treatment to obtain a regenerable antimicrobial fabric comprising chlorine content upto 100ppm and can be recharged by way of absorbing chlorine and the antimicrobial activity is maintained for at least 80 washes.
1. A process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric, comprising of steps:
a) Preparing the RFD fabric by subjecting to singeing/scouring, desizing and bleaching;
b) Scouring and bleaching process carried out in continuous bleaching range;
c) followed by caustic treatment by way of continuous mercerizing range;
d) dyeing of acquired fabric with VAT and Disperse dyeing process at a temperature of 60 to 200 degree celcius, humidity of 12 to 80% at a speed of 20 to 100, where chemical padding with 20-120gpl of sodium hydroxide and 30-140gpl of sodium hydro sulphite to fix the vat dyes followed by 3 stage washing;
e) fabric surface modification by chemical padding, comprising of primary grafting and secondary grafting of the fabric with chemicals comprising one or more of Hals, MBA, Allyl or alkyl derivatives of 5,5 Dimethylhydantoin, Dichloro derivatives of triazine (DCHT);where the padded moisture is maintained at of 10-80%, at drying temperature of 80-150°C;
f) fabric curing and drying of the grafted fabric at a temperature range of 60-180°C;
g) secondary grafting of fabric with Hals, MBA, Allyl or alkyl derivatives of 5,5 dimethylhydantoin, Dichloro derivatives of triazine (DCHT) performed optionally
h) chlorination of fabric by advanced mist control system followed by Moist control condition system for increased chlorine absorption, followed by 3 stage washing,
i) drying at 80oC, and tear Strength improvement with organic chemicals to yield a finished fabric,
wherein, the finished fabric comprises a pH 5-8, odor free and its chlorine content of 0 to100ppm which can be regenerated by way of absorption of chlorine to maintain the antimicrobial activity for at least 80 washes.
2. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fabric is selected from Cotton blended, Regenerated fibres, Synthetic fibres and the like.
3. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein the singeing is performed at a speed of 20 -100 meters per minute in a pressure range of 6-50 milli bars.
4. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein the desizing is performed at a speed of 20 -100 meters per minute at temperature of 28-110 deg C:
5. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein, the the said desized fabric is subjected to injecta washing unit to increase the absorbency prior to bleaching and the padded fabric retained for 20-30 min in the steamer with temp of 80-100'C followed byfortracta washing technology at 20-100 mts/ minute, at 60-100 deg C.
6. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1,whereinchlorination of fabric by advanced mist control system comprises at pick-up 10-80%, Temp 60-150°C, Mist 10-80%, Speed 10-80 meters per minute.
7. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fabric curing is performed for a time period of 2 minutes.
8. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein 3 stage washing comprises of primary wash or warm wash at a temperature of 30 to 50°C, secondary wash with soaping at 70 to 90°C, tertiary wash comprising of organic acid neutralisation process prior to cold wash at a speed of 10-80 meters per minute at padder moisture maintained at 10-80% and temperature range of 80-150degC.
9. The process of preparation of antimicrobial fabric as claimed in claim 1,wherein the tear strength improvement comprises of treating the fabric with Polyethylene at a concentration of 2gpl to 60gpl at a temperature range of 80 to 150°C.
10. The antimicrobial activity of the fabric as claimed in claim 1 is 99.99% for S. aureus and Kleibsiella pneumonia, which is regenerated or recharged with chlorine containing detergent.
