Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for polymerizing vinylidene fluoride (VDF) in an aqueous medium to form a fluoropolymer. The process comprises the steps of: adding an aqueous solution comprising a partially fluorinated surfactant to a polymerization reactor; pressurizing the polymerization reactor with vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and optionally a co-monomer; initiating a polymerization reaction of said vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and optionally a co-monomer to form said fluoropolymer by adding an initiator; propagating the polymerization reaction, wherein the partially fluorinated surfactant is added into the polymerization reactor in multiple doses after initiation of the polymerization reaction; and terminating the polymerization reaction after consumption of a desired quantity of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and optionally a co-monomer.
