Process for recycling polymer of vinyl chloride, according to which the polymer of vinyl chloride is brought into contact with methyl ethyl ketone at a pressure which is at least atmospheric pressure but which does not exceed 10 bar, and at a temperature of at least 75°C but which does not exceed 125°C, and the polymer of vinyl chloride dissolved in the methyl ethyl ketone is precipitated using water in the presence of a phase-separating agent, in which the phase-separating agent is an aliphatic hydrocarbon having from 5 to 7 carbon atoms which is compatible with methyl ethyl ketone and incompatible with water, and is also present when the polymer of vinyl chloride is brought into contact with the methyl ethyl ketone, and improves the dissolution of the plastic by the methyl ethyl ketone.
